Rotor switch between tamiya 11T & kyosho 22 x 1 mega motor

Post by ron »

I have 2 tamiya super modified 11F motors that I got for free. They are both screamers and get warm within a few secs. I have not mounted them on any RC and tested performance. But as you must be knowing, these are 4 sec competition motors.

I also got a kyosho 22 X1 MEGA motor that is literally new cause it came with a built but neever run, kyosho turbo raider. This is an entry level motor but unlike the 540 metal cans, better constructed. It has bushings instead of ball bearings and since the 11T has full set of 2 ball bearings, I did a rotor switch between the kyosho and one of the tamiya 11T. I wanted a slow motor so that I would get more running time and less heating of motor. Since the 22x1 is built for endurance running, I chose it to go on my yet to be built kyosho beetle. The switch was made cause of the better performing ball bearings of the tamiya. Also the back plate of the tamiya can easily be removed for maintenance and timing by removing 2 machine screws. As for the mega motor back plate, its held in place by the body which pinches against the plate, motor timing is also impossible as a result.

The end result is a quieter and smoother running motor, both the rotors are balanced, you can tell by the 1-2 holes made on the soft iron core of the rotors. You can not tell the diff between the 2 rotors, they look identical.
