Post by DMAT »

wondering if anybody has ever seen a car like that. I've seen some motor in wheel setups on small karts but I'm curious if anybody has ever seen it done on an rc.

Never in rc.

Years ago I heard Mitsubishi were making a 4WD Evo with an electric motor in each wheel.

Since it also removed the brakes, total unsprung weight was only 6 lbs more per corner. They compensated for it with lighter wheels.

It's been done 8)

Sneak peak:

The insides of the wheels were cut as an inside spur gear, the pinion ran against that.
Now, before you guys start chiming in on how the bellcrank is subpar or the springs are .010 too light keep in mind this design did not catch on and was not a good performer. It simply answers the original question, yes...there was a car with individual motors for each wheel. The one shown is fwd only

You jut got to wonder why its a fwd, why go to that trouble of swinging the motors? :!: I guess they are showing how the motor setup for the front would look like if the system were 4WD.

I like the Swedish approach, brushless motors have so much torque now that gearing is completely eliminated or reduced.
