Looking for info on the yokomo hot dog

Post by Mr. ED »

As the title says, any info wellcome on this buggy.
I know RCCA had an article and adds... just can't get to my magazines.

Sofar I only found these 2 pages in the Keil catalog:
http://www.christian-keil.com/katalog/kat_uebersicht2.html
http://www.christian-keil.com/katalog/yokomo_hotdog.html

Sounds like the perfect car to run along with my YR-4!

I was planning to improvise a 4x4 buggy from a YR-4 spare parts car and then read in the timeline the hot-dog is based on a YR-4 with '93 suspension.

Do you know which parts I need extra aside from the YR-4 kit?
More specificly:
- which c-carriers and steering knuckles are used upfront; are they the same as the YR-4 and 94 super dogfighter?
- idem for the rear carriers
- Are the shocktowers, front and rear, the same as the YR-4? (Sure looks like the rear shocks are a lot shorter than on 94)
- Are the front and rear universals the same length as on the 94 dogfighter, 870c?
- did the hotdog use a different front lower-diff-houses to increase the kick-up compared to the tourer? (the 94 has a kick-up in the chassis)

Ok, quite a list of bits.. I'll have a look and report back.

Off the top of my head - all suspension is works 91, the chassis is YR4, the shock towers look custom, the shocks are between the length of the YR4 and YZ10..

Before you go in to deep: the main idea is to build a 4x4 buggy with stick pack and use as much of the YR-4 as possible as I have those parts already, and spares. So I'm not planning on building an exact replica of the hot dog and any ideas are welcome.

Others parts I collected already are the magnesium cast turnbuckles (2) and a pair of front arms (no version info yet) plus a set of 4 of these purple shocks. Also have a pair of universals , but don't plan using them: want to make it accept 12mm hex wheels.
My first idea was to use a set of lazer arms and carriers ( got 2 sets and no other use for them) but I have to cut them to fit and they will loose lots of strength.

cool! Thankyou.

EDIT: just tried reading it , but the resolution is too low. Do you have higher resolution originals?
(Maybe better post them in the scans section)

I got the pics in my email, but they were the same resolution. Ig uess the originals got overwritten, so it's back to the scanner-time.

Pretty cool paintscheme and with the smaller wing and shock tower it looks low and mean

Ok so my German isnt' really what it used to be as i dont' speak it that much anymore but here's the rough of it for those that are interested.

The Yokomo Hot Dog is based on the Yokomo YR-4 offroad chassis. The Hot Dog is the lower version for beginners. The belt drive thats already used in many Yokomo models before and provides better acceleration.

... somthing about parts being the same as the YR4... sorry.

Whether on grass, crushed rock, or jumping on dirt, the Hot Dog handles the ground becaused its derived from the 93 world champion. The Yokomo Hot Dog is an entry into R/C!

I'm sure someone could fix it better but thats a rough idea of what it says.

Well Erik sounds less German than Erich, but I think I can do a bit better

Here you go
(warning : it's a literal translation of a text which I don't think is 100% accurate. Marked the most obvious with a *)

"The Yokomo HOT DOG bases itself on the Yokomo YR-4 and Yokomo's offroad chassis*. The HOT DOG is the fun-model for every type of 'ground'. The belt drive, which has been preserved in many yokomo models already, takes care of the needed (propulsion?)

With selected tuning-parts the HOT DOG can be converted to a YR-4 or Offroad car.

On grass, ?, piste, or carpark, the HOT DOG handles every 'track' type optimal with its suspension geometry that's based on the '93 world champion. The Hot odg as entry to RC driving! Have a HOT DOG and have fun!
"

Back to the original question though.
