Not a joke at all. My sister-in-law is a Social Worker,
she signs people up for these "benefits" every day...

We have some of the poorest counties in the nation here in South Texas.
Families are considered "poor" because they do not earn a paycheck, however,
their lifestyles (nice cars, fancy clothes, and hi-tech personal electronics)
are more luxurious than mine.

This is the kind of reckless spending that has shut-down our government.
And I do NOT want to pay a higher tax rate,
just so the government can continue this kind of spending.

What about the welfare on the other end of the income spectrum? What about corporate welfare? The stuff you guys are complaining about is a drop in the bucket compared to the handouts and breaks the super rich and the corporations get. But this is how propaganda works. Create a scapegoat. Divide and conquer. You're worried about someone making $1500 a month off of babies they can't afford but I haven't heard any mention of "too big to fail" or any mention of the fact that not one banker has gone to jail over this entire mess we're in that they created. It's business as usual on Wall Street again. Nothing has changed. Now we're seriously looking at default. Why is that? It has nothing to do with handouts for the poor. It has to do with a group of people robbing us all blind. To think that you can blame Democrats over Republicans or visa versa is a pretty ill informed point of view. They're the same party! We're very close to just that. We've already got the NDAA where they can lock up an American citizen without being charged, indefinitely. We all saw the martial law situation in Boston after the marathon incident. Look at the way the Occupy protests were broken up. There are parallels to the forming of previous dictatorships in the past. The support of extreme right wing factions by an extremely wealthy minority used as a wedge to divide the population. The slow and steady removal of basic rights. Many removed under the lie of "keeping us safe". Militarization of the police force. etc, etc.

A lot of this sounds just like the rubbish we are constantly bombarded with over here from our Government and news media constantly pointing their fingers at someone to blame for everything, breeding hate amongst the general public and deflecting blame from those responsible. We constantly hear about welfare scroungers and immigrants, which total at most 2% of the benefits paid out, while nothing is done about the tax dodging done by big business, and especially big US corporations, which cost us many times more money than any amount of benefit cheats.

Having grown up with the "socialist" NHS available to me I do find strange the every man for himself attitude regarding healthcare in the USA.
It costs every worker in the UK roughly 4% of our income, up to a maximum of around £2500 a year if you are earning over £50,000. If you are a very low income you pay nothing into the system. For that we get a health service that provides any medical service we need, whether we can pay or not is irrelevant.
My own example just a few weeks ago. I injured my hand in a work accident, mid afternoon so hospital was quiet and was seen in A&E within 30 minutes, patched up and sent to a specialist hospital. I could have been taken there but chose to make my own way so I could go home and get changed out of my work clothes. Got examined by a specialist plastic surgeon within an hour of getting there, and admitted that night. The next afternoon I was operated on, and the next day I was discharged. Now got 6 months of weekly visits to an occupational therapist to get my hand working again. It has all cost me nothing extra.

Apart from the big business medical companies actually being the ones that are most likely to get the better deal out of the affordable care act, one part of the act actually forces the senate to use the exchanges, and unlike everyone else they can't opt out and have access to a company provided medical insurance scheme.

That is the amount a Foster care or a person or persons legally providing aide to a child receives. I know this because we took care of my wife's friends son for a little while.
