Truck 4wd

Hi everybody!

For a long time now, I wish to get a 4wd Truck... I know what you're thinking, why the hell he need a 4wd Truck ?
And the answer is simple, caus'e of my local track !

Very muddy, sllipery (track is made of dirt, carpet and astro-turf) and bumpy; in winter
It's also short and technical with big jumps

For me the answer (in winter) is a 4wd with a big suspension range, lighter and shorter than a SC.
So I'm started dreamin' of an Asso T4 4wd (well helped by the RC10 4wd project of GomachV )

Do you think it's possible ?
Did it already been done ?
How can I do it ? i was thinking of a melt between a T4 and a SC10 4wd...

Thunder Tiger Sparrowhawk XT....but if you're just looking for a project, I believe others have tried what you're looking for using a B44.

i don't know about the reliability of the Sparrowhawk, and i'm also more attracted by a belt transmission (like the SC10 4wd)
but behind every project, there's also a budget, and i will study those options...

I have also seen 4wd projects based on the tc3 chassis. Another option since they are fairly easy to find cheap.

As you break parts on the Sparrow Hawk you can replace them with AE Prolite parts. Pretty much the same truck with different length chassis.

For belt 4wd ST there was the HPI RS4 MT. Might be frustrating to race with though since parts may be/become hard to replace.

Built a short course truck from a BJ4 years ago and it worked very well, But it's biggest downfall was its weight. It just got pushed around by the heavy Losi's if you got into it with one. But handled and jumped very well.

With my preference for Schumacher products, I would look to a ProCat / BossCat with a truck conversion. Pretty easy to do, as the Nitro 4x4 (basically a nitro BossCat) was available as a buggy, rally car, or truck.

So pretty much get a BossCat or ProCat, change over the mounts (or use a sedan mounting kit), and add Shotgun / Storm wheels.

Easy!

Of course, for something a little more modern, you could go with a Cat2000, a U1561W Circuit Buggy Conversion kit, and Storm 2000 rear hex truck wheels all round.... I have a couple of the rear shock towers from the kit, but not sure if I have the fronts, as I've never seen them!

Hello

Here in europe the Thunder Tiger Sparrowhawk XT have a good reputation of almsot unbrokable if not too much ovepowered. There is a brushless version that comes with a 3300 kv motor and it seems to be the good choice for a 4wd truck.
Still in europe we have the LRP truck S10 Blast TX wich is quite similar to the Sparrowhawk a good 4wd truck but not to overpower too.
Still in europe (germany for this one) but maybe also in the us under an other brand the reely blaze (sold by conrad) It's more an entry level truck but with "german quality" I've seen some vids of this truck overpowered with 3S lipos and it seems to be quite strong.

If you have the budget you can also consider the Hyper 10 TT from Hobao. It's a high level 4wd truck. It comes form the 1/8 th Hobao truggy.

That was my first idea, but i need a car shorter than a SC .
shortcut a SC doesn't look simple, all of them got a drive shaft ( and the SC10 4wd got a molded chassis)

I see you guys got a plenty of ideas and i take consideration of all;
at this time the car which seems to have the closest dimensions as a T4, is the sparrowhawk (280mm wheelbase)
it's cheap and still a good option for what i wanna do

I also made some research to convert a T4, and it seems that main shaft of a rc10gt2 is direct fitted on the T4 (.1,.2)
Is anyone can confirm that ?

The sparrowhawk seems to be a good car. My local shop tells me that thunder tiger (the manufacturer) stops to sell it because it nearly never brakes if you keep the orignials motors or don't overpower it. The original brushless is a 3300 kv motor, with some lipos it's enough for most of the people on a short track.

Haven't made any progress on that lately, though. Been too busy with the Tamiya 801Xt kits!

Having said that, I can tell works92 that the concept is sound, but requires parts from several different vehicles.

HPI RS4/MT2 Nitro diffs
HPI Nitro MT2 center section (not a diff, but houses spur, brake & outdrives) & drive shafts
B44 front steering & caster blocks
T4 CVDs for the front.

Otherwise, all he has to do is build/adapt an electric motor mount.

Of course, this set-up will mean a mid-mounted longitudinal engine/motor, just like almost any shaft drive 4x4.
