Here is my Jrx2 as she sits...but i need some more help

I will be filling and sanding the extra holes this week...


Ok here is the problem (or problems) The steering rack...when i tighten the screws down on the metal plate it starts to bind...but if i leave them loose, they will back out...

Number 2: The gearbox...I had it apart to put in some new bearings...the first time i put it together i thought it turned really easy...i don't remember...now when you spin a wheel you need alot of pressure to turn it....I am taking this apart again aren't I? I must have put something together wrong? Any ideas?

Number 3: and last for now...I have the b4 wheels mounted with custom works spacers...but the tire is rubbing the arm on one side and the other is really close...any ideas on this?

Ok first problem. I have seen this myself, the shoulder screws are usually the real problem. When made they sometimes cut the threads to far up the screw shaft. It could also be the hole in the rack have threads that are to loose. I would just try some lock-tite on the screw. I always put some on the ball studs on the rack and those screws just to be safe. I have lost many screws there by not using the thread locker.

Number 2. New bearing equal new grease, your old ones may have had a thinner grease formula in them or no grease at all. For dirt oval racing I use to take off the bearing seals and remove the grease. Then I would lightly oil them and seal them back up. This gave me the smoothest transmission.

Number 3. No clue on what to do for B4 rims on a JRX2 that is a new one for me. Never seen them used on a JRX2, only the buggies with the h-arm suspension.

Even stock tires could rub on the lower shock mount on a 5 link. With a modern rim and a spacer, you'll still need to space the outer links inwards on the hubs a bit. I did that on mine. If you are planning to race the car and your track follows ROAR width rules, there isn't a way to run modern tires on a stock 5 link system and not be over the max width. If width isn't a concern and you just want modern tires, use the AE 2.2 wheels that are on the re-re RC10 team car. They do stick out too far but again if you aren't constrained by rules, they work. Otherwise the H-arm setup would be best.

I will run a motor a bit and see if the gearbox loosens up....As for switching to h arm...nooooo way. The whole reason to have the car is the 5 link

Firstly the car is looking good - you've done a nice job on the clean-up & those Robinson Racing side bulkheads & the JRX-Pro steering levers are deff worthwhile upgrades.

mytimac's suggestion of the thread on the shouldered screws in the steering rack sounds the most likely reason, Losi's consistency in quality was less than perfect with these early cars - I wonder if shaving down the washers on top of the levers (in thickness) will allow the screw threads to 'bottom out' without the binding?

With regard to the gearbox I would recommend that you do take it apart again - it's a pain but I would prefer to make sure that everything is ok.... rather than risk damaging something just running to see if it loosens up

To gain more clearance with the wheels/tyres to the trailing arms I have seen people put a spacer or shim between the ball in the end of the arm & the hub carrier, to effectively push the arms inwards.

definitely use thread lock on the shoulder screws on the rack. I would take the rack off the chassis, and individually check the fit of each arm on the rack, with each screw. then file or sand down the arms so that when the screw is tight, there is no binding. I'm betting it's just a smidge too tight so you won't weaken the arm by thinning it slightly in that section. then you can run the threads in to be tight and apply thread lock.

Thanks guys...Dan ...I am taking the gearbox apart this week...I can't leave it like that...also i am filling the chasis etc....i will have it right this week...on another note getting my 22.4 tomorrow.....heh

The X-2 is looking good by the way......what are you going to use to fill the unwanted holes in the chassis with?

I think some 2 part epoxy putty mixed with charchol....i saw someone else do that i think

zuki, is the gearbox tight in the car, but not out? Thinking you may have over tightened the wheels (I am speaking from experience here), it makes the entire drivetrain drag.

Like the others say, loctite and spacing the rear arms is all that is needed.
