Thunder Tiger rims

Post by popboy905 »

Pretty bummed on thunder tiger 3/16 rims, i had set for awhile and never mounted them, so i put a brand new set of proline blockade tires on and two laps in this happen....

i tooks a light tumble on the second lap, nothing to crazy, landing rubber side down, went down the straight and through the sweeper and my wheel blows off. At first i though i didn't tighten a wheel nut. the plastic on these are so brittle, i hope i can remove the tires and save them. Anyone with the AE re 2.2 wheels can confirm that the rims are a better plastic? I really wish Jconcepts would make a 2.2 rulux, hazard or dish wheel for the rc10.

You can use the jconcept rulux wheels they make for the 1/16 trucks on the back with a hex adapter.

If I remember correctly the Thunder Tiger rims are infamous for being very brittle. Hope you can salvage the tires. If you put them in the oven on a dish towel in a pan on a very low setting it should make the glue brittle enough that you can peel the tire way. You just have to be careful not to pull the rib off the tire.

That sucks John :( Maybe just a manufacturing defect? I didn't think they brake that easily :?

i heard the duratrax rims were brittle, i thought the Thunder tigers were better, maybe i got a bad set, who knows... all i know is i won't be getting another pair. But for those 2 laps i liked the blockade tires.

I think they both make a hard plastic rim which tends to be more brittle than nylon. I would think Thunder Tiger would make a little better product than that, but maybe it was just a fluke.
