Fireworks anyone?

Post by askbob »

Haven't had the opportunity the last couple of years to do a nice backyard fireworks extravaganza like the previous 10 or so years.
Gonna even things out this year with a 'few' 4" shells.
Anybody else here going to light a few fuses for the 4th?

I often blast off some fireworks on the 4th, no specific plans yet for this year.

I've never purchased anything that big though! That looks powerful!

Where do you even buy something like that?

From the guy in the 'white van'...

I know a guy who wholesales commercial type shells. In my state though, you can buy 3" shell cakes at the retail level.

Wow - what do you use for a launcher? I've been doing things on my street for the past few years and its getting bigger every year. But I want an electronic ignition system and a better launch pad than just putting the cakes on the road (or using my Christmas tree stand for the larger tubes).

The fiberglass tube in the pic that is approximately 2 feet long. PVC will rip and metal becomes too hot and will ignite the next shell without warning.

I worked for a fireworks selling once for the 4th holidays. I also happened to live within shouting distance of the warehouses he got his stock from. So every day before I went there, Id pick up more stock for him. Well when I'd go into the main offices for pickup, they would have their shelves completely stocked with all kinds of fireworks, even the illegal ones in my state too. They had all kinds of large fireworks like that. Some of these things were absolutely massive and probably weighed upwards of 100 lbs. I was so tempted to ask the guy I was working for to buy one of them for me.

It was probably one of the best summer jobs I ever had too aside from the heat. I was there for setup and take down of everything before and after the sells could happen so I was probably the last to get paid. He paid me in stacks of $1 bills. I ended up going to the bank with a bag full of money. I felt sorry for the teller having to count out like a $1000 in 1's.

As a side note, I got a huge laugh at the warehouse people when I asked them about prices. They would get completely pissed about it. well the office workers. The warehouse people were nice enough.

Got these last year and they had a huge boom and a great report. Highly recommended.

Damn California and our wildfires, we can't have any of the good stuff out here. That is unless you have a hidden compartment and head south of the border

Or look for the guy in the white van :P

Love em' but can't have em' here in Jersey. Paid the price some years back. Rolled up to a dwi stop returning from NYC(Bought out the guy in the white van  ). Got pulled to the side and my vehicle searched & then seized. Cops were pricks. I had enough fireworks in the trunk to light up half my town(Wanted to recreate the Macy's spectacular in my backyard  ) . Court, fines, car impounded, many hours of community service, never again

Yeah and it's no coincidence that cops here always have the best fireworks on the 4th.

They sell them as big as cars here. I'm shocked at what they allow. I'll drop about 100 bux, nothing too crazy. So do most of the neighbors so it's always a pretty good time. Hopefully no one gets anything too dangerous.
