Wow, a piece of RC history. Still looks good too. A shame the tranny is missing...
Now that Kyosho has re-re'd the Tomahawk, I'm going to need that body for when I finally get around to building my Ultima cause it looks right on there.

The car is now finished and will be sent back to Joel shortly.
I've really enjoyed working with Joel, Dirk and all at OSRC and many other friends around the globe returning the car to as it left the track in 1987 when Joel won his 2wd world title.
The final write up is here:

What body is that? And what's the deal with the side "mirror"? That's one of the strangest things I've seen on a racer/non-stock-appearing RC car with no driver.
Beautiful, faithful reproduction of the original. Great job & attention to detail.

Even cooler. So why does the body have a side mirror? For the non-existent driver to observe that "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear"?

You'd need to ask Joel and Akira but it's part of the Tomahawk body set. He raced with the Tomahawk body you see in the pics it's the original shell.

Here you go..HKS_TRD wrote:IIRC back in the day the Australian publication "Radio Control Car Action" had an article titled"The Ultimate Ultima" in which the author built an Ultima with every conceivable aftermarket part. This was not long after Joel won the worlds and many references in the article were made to the worlds car and what part it had compared to the authors car.
If anyone has this article it may be of help
