I had the original as a kid. My very first "kit" rc car. It was actually labeled as a Cox Scorpion. I was on the fence here, since I wanted this but also a sand scorcher badly. I went for performance, and the look. =) Loving out this is turning out.
that is what I did exactly, love the VW bug, if I was to put a body to this beautiful chassis it would be the beetle body and not just any body - tamiya SS body - it is not like the pretend - wannabe beetle lexan bodies out there, don't get me wrong, those are great for performance racing but for looks, the sand scorcher takes the cake, I have both the RE RE and vintage body, for the re-re I cut off the fenders.
like your beetle, modern electronics are small and better suited, good thing you kept the vintage servos in there for that period correct feel!
Ha ha! Yes! That, and I have three of them...them stupid things were like $100 back in the day. Quick transit time. Works perfectly in this. I haven't taken pics of this yet with the SS paddles yes, but I'm sure it'll look good. My fenders are trimmed, more drastically in the rear than the front.
ha - last yr I saw in the completed listings sections, a NIP vintage body, parts still in the tree go for $115!!!!! I said holy *#? man what luck, the buyer must have been jumping up and down at the score he just made, WOW. I am glade I got a vintage body, nose and rear plate hood for $90, the rest, lights window etc are from the re-re SS, no difference man, the most import is the vintage body cause of the fenders, they are beautifully curved, the re-re is molded from the monster beetle or blister beetle.
I wanna see how your bug looks from the side, wanna see how the wheel base compares to the body, Because the fenders were touching the tires when suspension was compressed, I took off the vintage body and put in the re-re one with fenders cut off, looks the part, also managed to get hold of 3 original 'baja bug' license plate in like mint cone, for the re-re, I only need on for the front, not for the rear, it will look out of place on the rear on a chopped up body. so I am good.
Wish also tamiya had made one with the lights on the fenders in this style
you see how the front tires are way out in front, thats why I cut my chassis short, but if you keep the body high enough, it will clear suspension travel and look alright on the chassis
The front suspension compressed, the wheel falls to the center line of the wheel well. Many true baja have the front end extended by about 5" anyway. I think it looks fine as is. The rear was my concern, but after trimming it looks much better.
ok, yeah, the fronts will curve backward during compression. It resembles the real Baja bugs! its cool, you gonna put fog lights infront? And I did not notice your custom rear fenders, nicely done
I was searching for Lar's parma scorpion on google and came across this Japanese site, don't understand a word but if you go to the bottom, there are links to other cool vintage kyosho scorpion hopups. I was stoked to see these parma hop ups, way...

Hey, Shodog, I was wondering about the MIP rear trailing arms you got there, It has its advantages - doesn't break as the aluminum ones do under the extreme stress that it may face. Are these lighter or about the same weight as the standard aluminum...
Hey guys, I am trying to find an old body that I use to have. I can't remember who made it, but it was modeled after the '89-'94 Toyota extended cab 4x4 truck like the pic below. Any info on it would be greatly appreciated. toyota 4x4.jpg

I glad you found it. Can't wait to see it painted up. I like the look of that style(used to drive one around)
So! I've been way into some Re-Re Buggies lately- The Scorpion, Tomahawk, Wild One & the like. These are fairly inexpensive, classic cars that I've been wanting for some time. I get 'em & build 'em &...

After tearing up two SC-56 diffs at the Nordic Vintage Challenge I'm trying to find a diff that'll fit the vintage gearbox but is a bit more durable than the standard diff.
I've heard of the Thorp Dirt Burners 4630 Ball Diff and saw one back in...

Thanks TomEG, at the time when I was bidding on the vintage SS body, the seller had all the parts in separate auctions, the bidding for the plastic doors handles were just sky rocketing in price, I was glad I got the body and nearly outbid but won...
Was very lucky to end up with this old racer.
One of my favorites for sure.
Jim Schauer's Scorpion with an original Andy's painted body. Haven't seen many that ran the Mip trans.

Definitely!
This was an Srb with a Yok trailing arm mod.
That's about the least SRB parts left on an SRB that I've ever seen
As the title suggests this is a build project of a Kyosho Scorpion conversion to 4 wheel drive .
Aims
1 period possible with 1980's tech/parts
2 to keep it looking like a Scorpion cosmetically
3 to be functional ,not a shelf Queen
The plan is to...

Not sure of exact model, but maybe a start.

If it doesn't look like this one, it likely is the 1990s model. I think the manual should be on the web...
