Rc10 buggy moter and esc

Hi....

First off this is my first time here, and would like to say hi and get an idea of what I mite need yo ether upgrade or keep it old school. Right now I am running a 7.2v 5000meh venom batt, a mc-112b futuba esc and a cheep tamiya motor. I'm looking to change the motor... vintage or new school? Later I'd like to upgrade esc. Want to stay so.ewhat cheep in price. Yeah I know... this hobby aint cheep. I think im cooking my current motor. Why I'd like yo change it to something better. Thanx for ur time.

Do a google search for the RC handbook,it's a wealth of information for relatively new people to RC.. Depending on how long you are running and the gearing you are using your motor might be just getting overheated and could or could not be damaged from running hot.. Old school brushed motors don't like running for longer than five minutes at one time , cooled and go again . Unless you have super conservative gearing a 5000mah battery is probably too much for a brushed motor wether it be a Tamiya silver can or a race spec brushed motor..

Go brushless if your esc will allow it. If it's like the two I have in my re-releases, they can do either.

MC112B is a vintage brushed esc mate not brushed /brushless ..

The numbers sounded like the cheapie ones you get with the tamiya kits, my bad.

There are actually decent brushless esc/motor combos out there, if you don't mind using an off-brand. I have a Leopard 4370kv set in my drift car which works great. haven't had any issues with it. The esc AND motor can be had for around $60. So you can upgrade all of it now, instead of waiting. A 4370 would be fine in an old RC10.

4. This hobby is not expensive by any standard unless you're talking about 1/5th scale but then those are just ridiculous..

- My vintage RC10 is simply a cruiser, I never run it after restoring it.. might get a couple easy laps around a clay track but that's it.. it has all vintage electronics in it, and is very quick for what it is.. I am building a re- released Worlds RC10 to race 17.5 stock class currently that will have all modern electronics, and parts from modern buggies on it..

My 2cents, - buy a epic 27t spec mod motor, gear it high (smaller pinion), and run it with a 2S lipo (run an alarm with it or it will go BOOM) it will be all you need to have a little fun..

Buy and build a re-re World's with modern electronics to bash with.. as the modern brushless stuff requires almost 0 maintenance unlike that of true high performance brushed motors..

Anything I've read online says the MC112B can only handle 27 turn motors, which is basically a Tamiya silver can or old-style 'stock' motor. Some also say it can handle something hotter but you have to be careful with gearing and whatnot. If you're not worried about blowing it up, for a cheap upgrade, you could try something like a 20 turn Duratrax Photon Speed 2 for $12 and gear it down a smidge.

Personally, I wouldn't spend any more than $20 or so to get this relic ESC working like you want since better brushed systems and even cheap brushless systems are very affordable nowadays. They may not be a name brand like Tekin or Novak but they get the job done.
