Re: Black and Blue TRX-1 - Seabass-style - Electronics IN! (03/25/2017).
You could get some 2600 series dished wheels. 2.2 rears and 2.15 fronts. Would be a direct fit and they are comprised of less nylon. I've dyed a bunch of them and they never turn out blue/dark purple. I over concentrate and long soak them. Just an option. They are a little harder to find though.
Hope you're doin' something fun.

Thanks Todd. Got it. Mmmh, alloy wheels... have a link to share, especially for the front? Who knows... this might be the perfect finishing touch!klavy69 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2017 8:25 pm To dye this stuff takes a definite 'want to do'. I've had issues with black not taking in and turning brown also. Looked like crap when I was done and ended up looking worse than the off colors it was to begin with. If you do try to dye a set of those wheels simple green the crap outta them and then boil them first to get rid of the form release agents on the nylon and they'll take dye easily and uniformly![]()
I'm thinking this one could use a nice set of alloys like some blue T&A wheels to be over the top but then again...they don't hold up well the way I"d run it![]()
Todd

Cheers for the suggestion - would you have a full P/N by any chance? Struggling to identify them online...TRX-1-3 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2017 9:30 am You could get some 2600 series dished wheels. 2.2 rears and 2.15 fronts. you could technically use an RC10 white front wheel with 5/16" bearings, and put 5x8mm bearing it, with 8mm being super close to 5/16"

Well if you want a set of dyed black original five spokes(2770, 2771), let me know. Then you would need to find some old school 2.0" rear tires. Options. You have options.
Hope you're doin' something fun.

Re: Black and Blue TRX-1 - Seabass-style - Electronics IN! (03/25/2017).
WIsh I had a link to some T&A wheels. Problem with them is they seem to be rarer than tecnacraft anymore. When I do see them they go for well over my budget for them at the same time. I miss when they were littered all over the boards and ebay. Duratrax alloys seem to come up more often for cheaper and then you can get them re-annodized to fit your needs but I don't even have a set of those anymore. I've got a set of fronts or rears that I"ve been looking for the other end for a couple years now
...
If I come up with any ideas Paul I'll drop them your way

Cheers Guys, you're nice
True, I forgot about the AE front wheel trick... silly me, I use it on one of my runners!
thanks
TRX-1-3, sir, PM coming your way - black original 5spokes would be great, I still have 2.0 tires that would fit nicely!
Thank you,
Paul

Re: Black and Blue TRX-1 - Seabass-style - Electronics IN! (03/25/2017).
Trying to cover a few days of updates in one go
First, the body was decal'ed using a mix of old and new stickies, representative of the car and the parts that are on it! Lots of LRP stuff, some traxxas, some RPM (gear cover!), etc...

It's a fine balance between protecting the overall looks of the car, and still putting the right amount of stickers, which is a fine art... I tried to do my best

Then a few people commented that the white rims simply don't work that well with the car... and they are right to some extent! Mark was kind enough to provide some mildly used but unmolested original black-dyed 5-spokes
Thanks again Mark
Then I dug into my NOS tire stock and I came up with this for the front, as well as a set of Cat copycats!

even if it's "just" a pair of tires, it's always a fine moment to open a sealed vintage RC bag... Then I cleaned them up and with a lot of elbow grease and cusswords (these old coumpounds are HARD!) this is what the final result looks like, at last:

Thanks to all those who helped make this one come to life - it only took two and a half years to get this one done in the end

That's a beautiful car, dressed or nude. Great attention to detail.
Glad you went with the black wheels!

Dude, I'd sleep with that next to me. I'm that crazy. Nice work on the build. It looks amazing and I bet it would (not sure if you should run it) get around pretty good also. I am glad the wheels worked out for you.
Hope you're doin' something fun.
