Mod Clod Build

Post by tecnica2001 »

Here’s something I’m playing around with, still mocking stuff up, see what works and what doesn’t, and this is what I got so far....

Clod axles
Vertically mounted servos
4 link suspension
SCX10 Frame
RC4wd King Shocks

I’m trying out a set of servo mounts as shock mounts, and made my own vertical servo mounts, I like the challenge of making something out of something else...these custom Clod builds can get very VERY EXPENSIVE, so wherever I can save $$ I will....

Might still opt to mount the top links to the top of the tranny, lets see what happens...

I honestly liked how it looked semi-stock, the way the body sat low on the chassis, and the ladder bars are growing on me more than the 4 link, this project started because I wanted to fit a seat and a driver, and the previous layout didn't allow for that, but I never thought of just reversing the stock chassis and putting the battery towards the back of the truck and dropping in the seat and driver where the battery it's supposed to go....Might Have to brainstorm some more.... :D

yeah, the ladders are cool. The 'brace' links always bothered me but I think I saw someone replace them with an upper third link in the servo saver hole that was triangulated and it gave good articulation. I found the axles cheap(ish) so I went this route because I didn't have the chassis or ladder bars. this thing with the twin astro flight turbo 05 motors rocks. it looks just like the real things, as I have the chassis softly spring, most of the weight is the axles. I actually added sway bars to tighten up the chassis roll.

I built a full on Clod crawler years ago, mounted the Shocks on the links, top mount center link, etc etc, I think the articulation with the ladder bars is limited by the plastic braces attached to the bars and the double Shocks limit articulation also....I’m gonna try the ladder bar and replace the plastic braces with aluminum links, see how that goes...
