Finally got around to converting my old gold pan to 3/16" pin drive. I picked up a pair of Atomic aluminum steering blocks, TA hex front axles for the SC and 4 3/16" i.d. x 5/16" o.d. x 1/8" bearings. I drilled out the opening to 3/16", then used a 5/16" center drill end mill to bore down .125" on each side of the steering block. Made a .090" spacer to take up the room from the front of the block to the drive pin.
For the rear I used the TA Associated RC10 Worlds CVA Set 3/16" Axle kit 6371. I did need to add a spacer between the hub and the drive pin.
Oh man, thanks to google I found this post. The same topic was just on the RC10Talk Facebook page, but using Traxxas parts. Since the 3/16 axels are also becoming scarce, and I am too lazy to fabricate some out og 3/16 bar stock, I migh copy this design, with the small change of going metrc, using 5x8mm bearings, but flanged. I would have done the same with the 5/16 holes ib your design, drill all the way through and use flanged bearings.
I'm looking to get something different and remembered a couple of companies made offroad cars that were front wheel drive. The only offroad car with front wheel drive that I can remember is the Kyosho Maxxum. What other front wheel drive offroad...

Come to think of it, they actually look like a frog or a juicy cricket, with rear legs splayed out & extended in mid-hop.
The Tamiya VW New Beetle FWD FF01. I never expected this one to put a big smile on my face. Item number is 58217 and originates back from 1998. I finally fixed a broken steering block that kept me running the Beetle for a decade.
This one is fun!...

I have a New Beetle too that I purchased back in 2000. I recently made a few upgrades including adding the Castrol Civic body which I think looks great.
Gotta love the authentic Tamiya bodies. Nice work there!
Would anyone take on the challenge of crafting or thinking about a Team Associated RC10 midship front-wheel drive buggy concept? My inspiration comes from the first (and only?) production FWD Kyosho Maxxum...

My understanding is that the trailing arm set up on cars like the Ryuz buggy, and that Orb was to counteract the understeer characteristics of fwd set-ups with the oversteer characteristics of trailing arms. On modern high-bite carpet tracks...

Looks very nice. If you decide to run it, you may want to install a scratched up chassis or install a chassis protector. The A-Stamp chassis is hard to find in that condition.

I picked up a Gold Pan RC10 a while back and have not done much because I need a set of front rims/tires.
I'd like to pickup some inexpensive tires/rims to just get this buggy on the road....
If I had an opportunity to get the tri-spoke style...
