Got a 870c. Need help on cleaning

So I picked up a Yokomo 870c (YZ10) from a guy in a mega bundle deal and am now getting around to breaking it down and cleaning up everything before I figure out what needs to be replaced. So far it looks like only some hardware needs replacing and I ordered a stainless steel hardware kit from KNK. The think that I need help with is the magnesium parts. I don’t have access to a media blaster and I want to clean the parts and seal them with clear coat. My question is how do I clean the magnesium parts. Another issue I have is removing super glue from the chassis. The prior owner super glued the servo to the chassis which I was able to pry off without damaging the chassis. Only problem now is I have this mess of dried glue on the plate. I know a need to be careful not to mess with the chassis spine and I am going to try debonder on the area in question. Any advice on both problems would be appreciated.

Other people may have better methods but I've used a fine brass brush followed by a toothbrush in the past and that has worked well for me.

Can’t say whether or not this is advisable but I used an SOS pad on my yz10 diff/motor mounts and then sealed them with a clear coat (they look good and are holding up) but honestly am not sure if they were mag. Or just steel? Also seen people use wire brush dremel with decent results.

I'd stay away from using anything metal the clean magnesium parts. Mag is soft, fragile, and easily corrodes. Any trace metal left by a metal wire brush is potential for pitting to occur as a result of galvanic corrosion.

If I was you I would find someone to glass bead blast them for you. They come out looking new then you just spray them with a clear topcoat to preserve the finish.

I've bead blasted for other members here on the board so if you get in a bind drop me a line. Otherwise, stainless steel or brass wheels on a dremel have done it for me in the past. But as mentioned, the magnesium is super soft and easily can make a mess with parts.

I've cleaned mag parts with white vinegar. Just dilute the vinegar or you won't have enough of the part left. Fill up a pickle jar with water and add one tablespoon of white vinegar. Let it soak but keep an eye on it and it will come out pretty clean.

I used Mothers mag wheel polish on my WCS parts. They've been in a sandwich bag for 5+ years now so it would be interesting to see what they look like now.

As far as the glue on the chassis acetone is the method I'd go with.

After a few false starts (work and family stuff) I was turned on to getting a cheap gravity feed media blaster for $20 at Harbor Freight and using Baking Soda in it. My compressor is a 20 gallon and can go up to 125 PSI. The blaster has a operating PSI of 90 so I am in the zone. One of my coworkers restores old furniture and he uses the same blaster and baking soda to remove paint and varnish from wood and metal. He said it will clean the magnesium parts well and allow for a nice finish after clearcoating. I will give it a try and post pictures.
