What are your favourite slot cars ?
Well this is nice to find here on an RC forum - a dedicated Slot Car section.
Slotties are a passion for me . Vintage 1:24th and 1:32 scale from the 1960s especially.
I have to say my favourite slot cars were made by Tamiya , COX , MPC , Monogram and Scalextric.

Re: Your favourite slot cars ?
Tamiya made some of the most amazing slot car chassis and best detailed bodies around during the 1960s - with some cutting edge tech.
Here is a Tamiya King Cobra - waiting for restoration.
This car runs a Tamiya "Y" chassis , with sprung rear motor / axle section.
Tamiya did a special edition re-release of some of their original 1:24th scale slot cars - here's the King Cobra version.

Although I personally have nothing larger than HO scale, the Scalextric cars have such amazing detail that I would choose them first. That said, I love vintage AFX MagnaTraction slot cars the best. They have just the right amount of speed and yet looseness that it becomes a real strategy to race around the curves and keep your car in the slot while trying to knock the opponent off.
I find the Tyco cars look less realistic and sometimes cartoonish to me.

I have never owned any HO scale cars , but can certainly appreciate them.Coelacanth wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 6:48 pm Although I personally have nothing larger than HO scale, the Scalextric cars have such amazing detail that I would choose them first. Some of the early body styles are great - I almost purchased a HO Blazing Blazer body just because I liked the body.

AFX were my favorite as a kid. Lots of great memories laying on the floor all day on Christmas racing them with my dad.

Total Control Racing! I remember the commercials in the 90s, and how cool it seemed but never got a set. I'm sure by that time, R/C was dominating my interests.

Re: What are your favourite slot cars ?
I remember how slow they were. That is the 1978 TCR commercial I remember as a kid. I still have the track but the box rotted away, lol!
And I was really hooked this track. TYCO Niteglow silver streak set my Grandparents gave me for Christmas so many years ago. Still have it, reminds me of them ever time I come across it. From TYCO, of course.
And then when the crazy fast Magnum 440 cars came out, my friends and I would have so much fun full throttling the cars off the tracks, across the living room and smashing them to bits when they hit the wall!

Re: What are your favourite slot cars ?
I really enjoyed the TCR! I have a "newer" set, from the 90's era. I never knew until the past few years, that TCR had been around for so long. I thought it was a new concept when Tyco released the set that I have. I've always enjoyed slot cars in general. I've only dabbled with the larger scales and mostly kept my interest in the HO scale. I even "raced" a couple times with a modified HO scale with a lexan body, etc. I keep thinking about getting my 4 lane track out, but then I remember how much work that would be.

Re: What are your favourite slot cars ?
I had a TCR set too as a kid, but I remember it being more frustrating than fun...it didn't help that my dad wasn't really mechanically inclined and once the cars could barely run anymore, we couldn't do the necessary maintenance.GeneralZod wrote: ↑Sun Sep 27, 2020 3:54 am Anyone remember TCR? I remember that Tyco Nite-Glow commercial too, but I wasn't into the super-fast slot cars with magnets so strong they stuck to the track to the point they could climb walls and do loops like those. For AFX it was the Lazer 2000 series that did those things. I had that set too but I just find there's not as much fun when you can practically nail the throttle full-on and hardly ever come off the track. There's no strategy in that!

Re: What are your favourite slot cars ?
I do recall the very strong magnets on those! I used to stick them on the fridge when I was little. The Magnum 440s were really fun. They really taught you to stay off full throttle and were more challenging to keep on the track. They had such neat layouts back then. Remember the digital lap counters with pit stops that "fueled up" the cars? Aurora sets come to mind.Coelacanth wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 7:56 pmI had a TCR set too as a kid, but I remember it being more frustrating than fun...it didn't help that my dad wasn't really mechanically inclined and once the cars could barely run anymore, we couldn't do the necessary maintenance.GeneralZod wrote: ↑Sun Sep 27, 2020 3:54 am Anyone remember TCR?
