Anyone have experience with these? The motor in the project I took over has a stripped mount hole and needs to be replaced. Current motor is a standard 27t. Will these handle lower turns?

Were you using Lipo? Some youtube comments said they didn't play well with lipo despite being marketed as such.

No, 7.2v nicad pack and no motor hooked up. When the first one went I wasn't going to take a risk with the second. The hobbywing speed controls are rock solid reliable and not a lot of money so that's what I use.

I had one in my son's SCX10 running a 55t motor. It smoked after two packs. Agreed that the 1060 is hard to beat for the price.

Run it, and if it lasts, great. Just don't ask much of it.

Used to sell branded versions of these, although that looks the same size as the ones we sold for 1/16th scale, not 1/10th. Did the job in an rtr, no tuning and auto setup so great for people to just plug in and play, but useless if it doesn't match your radio. Got rid of them as soon as Hobbywing came out with the base model 1040 for about the same price.

A Hobbywing 1060 will run down to a 12 turn according to the manufacturer, although if you want something that runs that low look at the Hobbywing 1080.

Lot of people here run the 1080 variant? seems a bit more robust. Ive been liking these ORCA 80A brushed esc, theres a V2 now also. Cost a bit more, but still very cheap compared Good on you for getting into it. Have fun.

I've been intrigued by the orca but haven't heard any feedback from people that actually use them. They seem pretty decent in specs and features.

I have dozens of packs through it myself, plus whatever the previous owner did. Seems to be working well. I would probably upgrade to brushless before buying a new brushed esc. However, for now, brushed replacement motors are less than $15. I would also need the harder to find Tamiya connector or would also have to buy an adapter. I will probably just go with another 27t, knowing that it can handle it.

I have had good luck with these. I've only used them with 2s and stock motors. I wouldn't even try 3s. They run cool.

They auto calibrate with pause tap for reverse. Channel reversal might be needed

I've never had any trouble finding them. In NIMH batteries, they are probably the most common (if not first, then second), at least online.

If you are dealing with a local shop, it might be different. Traxxas, Dean's, and EC3/IC3 seem to be more common.

You can use an adapter or just solder on your preferred plug.

Just wanted to update this. I found an old website that was selling rebranded versions of my esc advertising they supported down to 13 turns. I ended up going with a Holmes Hobbies Retro Sport 21t. So far so good, and definitely much faster than the previous HPI 27t motor. Based on the specs, the 21t Retro Sport should be similar power to the motor Kyosho recommended for the base electric version of my car, the Le Mans Stock 05.

For the price, the Retro Sport motors seem really nice. Some of the features:

1. Ball bearing on the shaft end
2. The shaft is extra long (I needed an extended pinion for my project and with this motor I could use a regular length pinion.)
3. The black finish is very premium looking compared to a standard silver can.
4. Stronger magnets and timing advance

In case anyone is looking for a cheap brushed motor, I also found a Redcat Racing Ground Pounder 7520 20t motor on Amazon. At one point the price was as low as $10.52.
