Tamiya Fox

Post by Dangeruss »

In 1985 Tamiya would give racers and hobbyists yet another choice in off-road buggy's with their new 1/10 electric 2wd Fox. Unique in not only its Hotshot influenced construction but for being one of the few Tamiya models without a successor the Fox would feature a two-piece ABS clamshell chassis that sealed the electronics away from dirt and dust. A double a-arm ball joint independent front suspension was dampened by a single plastic body oil-filled coilover monoshock with clip in springs spacers while the rear end was suspended independently by double wishbones and a pair of oil-filled plastic coilovers hung from a fiberglass shock tower. Directional control came by way of adjustable tie rods with spherical ends mounted directly to the Kimbrough style servo saver nestled just in front of the mechanical speed controller and radio gear inside the chassis. For accessibility the battery would be held in place transversely by a bottom loading door and provide juice to the 540 motor that mounted up on the side of the plastic transmission case which contained the pinion, spur, and bevel gear differential. Rubber boot covered dogbones supported by ball bearings forced the single piece gold plated plastic wheels with wide 12.5-20 Super Gripper Racing R directional knobby rear tires and narrow Super Gripper Racing rib tires up front to find traction in the dirt. A new clear lexan single seat body and bolt down wing adorned the Fox which also included a large front bumper, nerf bars, rear motor guard, mechanical speed controller, Mabuchi RS-540S motor, bushings, and Tony Toudor driver figure in an unassembled kit:
