An alternative to lock nuts would be thread locker (loctite). There are several different flavors depending on how much hold you need.
IMO, nyloc nuts are the way to go most of the time. Yes, they will lose their ability to hold if they are frequently removed, but you can get a good number of uses out of them before a noticeable decline in holding power. As an example, how often do you change your RC wheel nuts?
With all this talk about locking threads you gotta be careful not to bust a nut while trying to twist one out!

For what it's worth you can buy made in the USA flex lock nuts from Grainger, MSC Direct, and McMaster-Carr, but dunno the price compared to Aerotight. My take is nyloc nuts strike a balance between maximizing retention and minimizing damage for the price. Never seen a flex lock nut on an RC car but nothing wrong with using seriously nice fasteners... silver plated stainless steel 4-40 flex locks only cost $11 a piece, how many nuts could an RC puller possibly have.
Flex lock nuts seem even better (less aggressive) than the Aerotight ones due to the design principal. I'm sure I came across them during my extensive searching but it's been so long now that I can't remember why I settled on the Aerotights. I'm thinking I must not have been able to find the flex variety in the sizes I needed. I have nothing against using nylon locking nuts but couldn't find any that were made in the US or other similar countries. With what the goal is on the two puller builds I have in the works, prices don't necessarily matter.

Oh yeah for sure. I was just thinking as to why we use nyloc nuts on our R/Cs when there were potentially better alternatives out there. It seems like the answer is what I initially surmised it to be, along with the possible thread damage I hadn't considered. The wheel nuts get screwed on and off the most but I certainly get what you mean.

Buying hardware is like buying pants... you can never seem to find anything in the size you need.

I was with you until you mentioned sweats.....
Well, sweats gets your member's only area adoring looks, whereas tighty-not-so-whities gets you a ride downtown in the municipal taxi. Your choice, though.

Did MCI get "Traxxas'd"? I can't find jack for decals on their site. I know they are creative with some of their product naming but scrolling 360 some odd pages of "all products" is getting tedious. I guess I lied, I found some Villian boat stickers
When Mr. T got inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, he basically just mentioned his mother over and over again for way too long... Seriously. There's loving your mother, and then there's being uncomfortably weird about it like Mr. T is.
