There are two tabs that need to be bent over, you can see one at the top of the can between the L and O

Support the motor and use a hammer with the largest pin punch you can fit in there to bend the tabs over with so you don't mark the tabs. You might find it useful the remove the brush holders from the endbell first so you can't damage them.

I used to do the hammer and punch method too, but it is much easier to use an automatic center punch. It does mark the tabs with a dimple but if it isn't a rare motor that may not be a concern. A piece of scrap metal could also be stacked on top of the motor tab to prevent the dimple mark. Using a hammer and punch feels like a 3 handed operation and can be frustrating. I was terrible at it and always risked causing a lot of damage to the motor can trying to support and stabilize it while using a hammer and punch.

The end could be ground or filed flat. Good thought.
