Which interesting build next?

Post by NthNackenBlack »

I'm wrapping up a Losi XXT-CR Graphite Plus fun-runner build, and I'm already on the hunt for the next restoration/timesink/money pit 😄

The G+ is now in great shape, restored to how it would've looked and driven when it was relatively fresh back in the day (within reason). As many of you know, finding a new LOSA9904 chassis is basically impossible, and even the LOSA9900 brace set seems to have vanished from eBay. Along the way, I’ve managed to collect a pretty deep stash of XXT/CR NIP parts... probably enough to stock a small hobby shop 😂

Now that this build is nearly done from a mechanical and electronics standpoint, I’m itching for the next challenge. I’m torn between tackling a XXXT MF1/MF2 or going in a different direction with a XX-4 (maybe Graphite or Worlds Edition?).

On one hand, I love stadium trucks, and the MF editions are genuinely special. On the other hand, the XX-4 has this mythical status... so good that Losi re-released it years after discontinuation because its successor didn’t quite measure up?

What would you choose? Or is there another restoration-worthy Losi project you'd recommend? Budget isn't a big concern. I’m more about the tinkering and building side of the hobby than actual racing, so ultra-durability or upgrades aren’t a must.

Looking forward to your thoughts!

Never found 4wd all that interesting myself but, always thought the XXX-T had the prettiest chassis of all the molded plastic generations. I'd probably go that route, maybe with a twist, rather than a Matt Francis build with all the red... go all yellow, Adam Drake style. 8)

I've added a few saved eBay searches to my list for XXX-T related terms. As weird as it may sound, I don't want a complete turnkey car - I love to disassemble and evaluate and tinker and bring things back to life.

It may be a wise choice to bypass the MF editions... some of the low production run parts specific to those two are just not available anymore on eBay unless one buys a complete car to cannibalize, but that feels wrong. XXX-T CR feels like an achievable target.

Thanks for the suggestion, and open to others!
