In 1999, after a 12-year reign, the Clod Buster was dethroned and a new king of the 1/10 4wd electric Monster Trucks was crowned as, the Juggernaut. Sharing only a few minor pieces with its long ruling ancestor the Juggernaut was an exercise between Tamiya's eye for scale realism and the incorporation of designs based on what the aftermarket had done with the Clod Buster. The chassis of the towering behemoth started with an ABS plastic drop rail ladder style frame that closely resembled that of a full-size truck combined with a set of large aluminum side plates that were a common sight in the aftermarket Clod Buster scene. The truck was suspended by not only four realistic all metal leaf springs with functional shackles at each end located by beefy four link bars, but every corner featured a pair of undampened coilover sliding pillar shocks for additional support. All this to control the new ABS plastic, metal geared, Rockwell style axles. Gone were the axle mounted motors as universal joint metal driveshafts led up to the trucks 18.69:1 gear reduction transmission, which received power from a pair of 540 electric motors spinning a single spur gear. Not treading lightly upon the ground underneath it the Juggernauts tires lived up to the trucks name, with a quartet of 35.5L-32 Heavy Duty Deep Tread chevron style rubber tires enveloping its single piece chrome plated plastic wheels. And perched high above the ground Tamiya bestowed the new ruler of the off-road with an exceedingly well detailed molded plastic Ford F-350 Super Duty body slathered in chrome on its bumpers, grille, and triple tube roll bar. The battery resided under the rear tilting bed for easy access while the steering and throttle servos along with the speed controller would take their place under the cab. While a radio system was not included, the truck did come with a pair of metal brush guards, two Mabuchi RS-540SH motors, a mechanical speed controller and a full set of oilite bushing in the unassembled kit:
