Nice work! Have to see the build thread on these. Are those metal hood hinges?

Actually, apart from windows, light lenses, and tires, everything you see is ABS.
For the photos, I've fitted some quickly made lexan struts in place of hinge springs to hold the hood open -- until my extension springs arrive.
So, I guess they're really not yet "finished" but I almost never get a project this close.

That's a nice pair of trucks! Really like the details!XLR8 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 9:18 pmHey, thanks so much!!GreenBar0n wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 7:44 pmThose look incredible! Would've liked to see a build thread on both of these. Are they RC?
I'll put something together and post it somewhere.
Yes. 1:10 scale RC, 2WD, full interior, detailed chassis, suspension, 390 engine, C6 transmission, single exhaust system, etc.

The Optima Mid was one of my top contenders when I was in the market for a 4WD buggy. Ultimately, I ended up getting a YZ-10 instead (and then a RC10 4WD). Seeing this makes me think that I made the right decision.

I thought they were real until I saw the chairs behind them! My brother had the same color in the first picture but it had a big slant six in it.XLR8 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 11:07 pm Thanks again.

Honestly it's a really great buggy but seems like these diff gears are its Achilles heel. It drives really good. All the reres have their own little issues.juicedcoupe wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 12:57 amThe Optima Mid was one of my top contenders when I was in the market for a 4WD buggy. For future reference, a slant 6 is a Dodge/Mopar engine. It is on a 30° angle, really odd looking in person.
All of Ford's inline 6's are vertical. Most people generally refer to the (amazing, tough, etc) truck engine as a 300-6. Ford used that engine for over 30 years.

Re: So, what did you do RC today?
My dad bought a new Chevy pickup in '78 or '79 an he had so many problems that he quickly traded it for a new Ford F100. The F100 was very basic, silver with blue interior, and it had the 300-6. That engine was reliable and delivered plenty of torque. He drove the F100 for 10 years before buying a new Blazer -- with a diesel. Before he passed in '05, he drove a Dodge pickup with a V10.juicedcoupe wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 12:38 pmFor future reference, a slant 6 is a Dodge/Mopar engine. Dad seemed to like trucks with unusual engines.

I stand corrected, I was pretty young then, I just know it was a straight 6 for sure.juicedcoupe wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 12:38 pmFor future reference, a slant 6 is a Dodge/Mopar engine. It is on a 30° angle, really odd looking in person.
