Ebay Etiquette

Post by Bubb Rubb »

Hi all, me again with a quick ebay question. If I see an auction on ebay, and am wondering if it is something I can use, or if it is a good deal, am I out of line posting a link here and asking? I am wondering because I am a 70's-80's skateboard collector and thats a big no-no on their forums. Some guys get real bent out of shape when you bring an auction to light that they thought no one else was watching. I know by asking about something I may be driving up the price I end up paying, and thats fine with me, I'd rather pay a little more than get the wrong parts or get burned, I just don want tick off the people on this board. Thanks.

It looks to me that people here are ok with helping people with auctions and seems like they stay away from the auction someone needed help with. Good thing about the RC10 auctions is that most things reappear on ebay fairly often. Auctions for rare stuff like a MRP High Roller you might have some fights for it. This place has to be one of the best vintage forums Ive belonged to date. Always a happy mood and lots of educated AE guys here, so I hope someone can help ya.

My thoughts are that eBay is open to the world so really there are no secret auctions. Most message boards I read with the exception of Tamiya Club, allow live links. Whose to say a person on some other message board isn't posting a link to that mislabeled auction you have been watching.

Cool, just wanted to check before I made people mad. MelvinsArmy, one day I'll get an old bike, I dont know much about them, since I was on four wheels most of the time, but I know I want an old Haro or Kuwahara. Did you ever hear of Dave Vanderspeck or the Curb Dogs? That was my old crew, we used to kick it in San Leandro CA. Joe Lopes house on Anza St. AUOK? Man I miss those guys.

Heck yeah! Those guys are famous. Legendary these days. Do you ever go on vintagebmx.com? That's a great forum for all the old BMX and freestyle stuff.

I've got a 1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team Model and a 1984 GT Pro Performer, the PP is a white Eddie Fiola inspired bike. He was my BMX hero, I guess maybe that's why I'm such a GT guy. I've also got a 24" cruiser race bike.

Haro is making a tribute to the original Haro Freestyler this year. It's supposed to look just like the original, only it has updated brakes and stuff.

posting listings doesnt bug me at all.

i got nothing but love for my homies. for real yo... but i aint got no love for anybody when it comes to ebay. my opinion is it's a complete free for all, the person willing to pay the most money for something gets it. if i want something listed on ebay, it doesnt matter to me if you have already bid or called dibs, if you aint willin' to pay the same amount i am, then it sucks to be you.

and the same thing the other way, if you outbid me then thats that. you get it and i dont. i dont expect anybody not to bid on something i show interest in, most likely the same freaking part will list again soon anyway and you'll end up getting it for half what you tried to get the first one at.

BUT dont get me wrong, if somebody is looking for a starter buggy or REALLY needs black nose brace tubes i'll be cool. but if an mip prototype car looks like its gonna end at 50 bucks i'm darn sure going to bid on it, regardless of who placed a bid or said how much they want it.

lol, what happens on ebay...

I think in today's collector market for anything, there are few "hidden" items on eBay anymore. There's too big of an audience. The guys who are rooting around for the primo pieces are going to find the hidden stuff anyway. Five years ago, it was a different story.

I don't think there is a problem with eBay "outings" here, because most of us realize that modern eBay bidding is all about the golden rule... He Who Has the Gold, Rules.

No worries in here, this is a great community.

BMX

Post by Dr. Robotnik »

Hi guys,

I let some auctions slide if I know others who are bidding but we all like the same cars so its inevitable that we will bid against each other eventually.

For example who's not up for Tecnacraft tie-rods? LOL :D

Oh and about BMX do you guys still ride or just collect old bikes? I am still riding and have posted a pic in the who the hell are you section.

Cheers

Here you go Hoopty, hope you're ready for some reading. I picked out the page with the pics of the original blue prints. Looks like it's going to be pretty sweet.

I still ride, but no tricks. Just wheelies and cruising around. I love riding around on the old bikes. I like riding the 24 even more though. Never raced though.

I think we get along real well (even though I too am a relatively new user).
