In stock class you will be fine with a lower amp pack so go for 2 packs: if you buy a topnotch pack of 50$ you will soon destroy the top-quality of it by recharging without it being discharged properly. And with only 1 pack you won't have time to discharge between heats.

The best thing to do is to go by the local race track, check out who races in the stock classes and what they recommend. But don't let them push you to hard on the latest and greates: make sure they understand you're on a budget. Once you start racing the ccosts keep rolling: entry money, membership, wheels, tires, brushes, ... keep a little reserve for replacements as they come

more-so than electronics (motors/batteries and such), find out what tires work. tires are 90% of racing any more. you can have the fastest car out there, but if your tires arent working...your done.
