Airbrush Kit Recommendations

Post by Mazdaj »

Can anyone recommend a decent air brush kit? I'm not looking to spend a fortune, but I don't want something cheap. Trying to replicate the Kinwald style "tear-drop" effect used on the XXX BK. Also-do you recommmend a small compressor or just use the propellant can? I will probably be painting only 3-4 bodies per year. Thanks in advance.

I'm not a painter, in fact I've never used the Iwata brush I bought several years ago. despite that, there are pro's and con's to everything. The pro side of the propellant can is that they will provide an even pressure (to a point) while painting, something that's important for detail and fine work. The down side of propellants are that they are relatively expensive and don't last all that long. The pro of a small air brush/hobby compressor is that they provide all the air you'll ever need, the con is that they create pulses in the air stream which affects the smoothness and evenness of the paint. This can be compensated for by using a buffer tank or tank type compressor of any size with a regulator/dryer. The tank will buffer out the pulses of the compressor, in the case of a 5 or 10 gallon shop compressor, the unit will probably never come on during the paint process.
