Water Logged Novak 610-RV, can it be saved?

It came in my recent Treasure Boxes. When I picked it up, water was actually DRIPPING from it. It was FULL. We immediately took the covers off, anddried it out as best we could with a towel, and its been "air drying" for 3 more days. He said it was fine when he put everything up, and it wasnt hooked up to anything while it sat. It did have a dusty rust colored coating, I brushed some of it off with a tooth brush,but you can still see it. Is it a Goner for sure, should/can I do anything to it before I try it, or should I just hook it up and see what happens.

I even managed to save the SOAKED Instruction Manual for it. Delicately seperated each page, and put a paper towel between each one, and let it dry. A little rough, butcan still read every word. Manual seems to be dated 10/90, and says "The 610-RV is designed to be used with any motor - stock or modified." ANY???

my old boss, left his laptop in a rear "carryng box" of a golf cart, submerged in water for 12 hours. submerged....

3 days later he turned it on for giggles and iit came on fine.

i always use contact cleaner(pricey) or get some denatured alcohol and give it all a good cean with a tooth brush(even dunk it in and give it a good shake)..the 3 days drying is good make sure it cops sun also. good luck man..

Yeah, back in Miami when everyone had Beepers, mine regularly wound up in the Atlantic. Always heard, "Ooo, salt water, its gone". I just took the Battry out, went to the closest faucet, rinced it GOOD, blowdry it for a while, and it was good to go.
Its just that layer of rusty dust that wont brush off that scares me. Can rust conduct electricity? I have CRC 'Lectra Motive I use to clean Electric Motors, would a few squirts of that hurt anything? Its awesome stuff. Dries clean.

Typically with electronics like that as long as it was never powered up when it came into contact with water then as long as you dry it out completely before putting power to it, it should work. It may have shortened the life of it, but it should work. When my wife submerged her cell phone (and that was powered on), we removed the battery and she read online to seal it all in a container with uncooked rice to absorb the moisture. It worked for about a year after that before things started to get goofy with it.

Ok, but is the rusty film left after the water dries conductive? Would the 'Lectra Motive hurt it?

goto radio shack and get the contact cleaner. or use some real alcohol, not like rubbing alcohol, but the 90% stuff

that should clean it good.

For some reason, I KNEW that was coming. You dont know how bad I want to (i have everything sitting in front of me right now), I just cant bring myself to do it, if theres ANYTHING I can do to improve the odds that it DOES work. LOL

old boss was a pothead, forgot his laptop in a golf cart, let it soak overnight, left a business card in it, they called him, i was on the road so i picked it up for him, soaking wet lol. it was a HP by the way lol.

i work in the electronics service industry and let me tell you this is the best contact cleaner on the market. it actually boosts conductivity on connectors and it works wonders on anything electronic, it is even used in the aerospace/military/n.a.s.a. industries. its well worth the money they sell it for,but i have larger spray cans that i get from work. use the red labeled stuff for cleaning just about anything and the gold for anything gold plated. in your case spray the whole board and scrub with a old tooth brush and blow off with air. only on p.c. boards should you blow off residue because it leaves the protective coating that may attract dirt. i use this alot for r/c mainly on battery connectors, it cleans and protects contacts and puts a sealer/lube on them too. u can even use it for comm drops but it dosent last too long like any comm drop, except for TRIBO nothing works like tribo, but thats a whole nother thread dont get me started.

Googled DeoxIt, and found mixed reviews, from "great", to "no better than the rest", but its $15 at RS.

Would either of the ones I HAVE be ok, or should I just go back and see what I can find at Lowes or something like that (denatured alcohol, contact cleaner, etc)?

And NO scr8p, Im not gonna hook it up until I atleast TRY to improve its odds.
