So Who Else Here Has

Post by LowClassCC »

ever got excited and bought a nib body for a restoration just to find out the very next day that its the wrong body?

i was sitting here scanning in some manuals/catalogs/ads and i come to find out that BoLINK made 3 different sprint car bodies (at least that i have found so far). i know of 2. one narrow and one with sides. i needed the one with sides, found one with sides, bought one with sides. and turn around and find out today that they made 2 different ones with sides. and you guessed it i got the wrong one. well there went a decent amount of money that i would rather have spent on the correct body. ohh well i will save up and continue my search for the correct one. untill thenthe wrong one will have to do. at least i got the right brand lol.

so who else here has done something like this in the past?

Unless you've been collecting and restoring for years, it's tough to know all the different makes, models, and accessories. I am continually amazed at the guys around here that can look at a wheel nut and tell you exactly what it came off of, right down to the production period of that model. Heck, some of them could even tell you which tire the darned nut held in place!

lol i hear you. well seeing this this is the very first bolink i ever owned, i got it in a lot, i originally planned to just use it as a parking lot basher until i seen the condition... i think im doing pretty good. she will just be a shelf queen to "mix it up" a little when compared to my other vehicles.

im working on scanning in all the bolink stuff i have and will most likely start posting some of it tonight.

I have bought a ton of stuff that ended up not working. Most of the time I just sell it on.

i know what you mean. i get overwhelmed pretty quick when i start really getting into the mess. just off the top of my head i have micro-rs4 stuff, tons of losi micro-t stuff, x-factor stuff, a couple helis that i think are cool but havent messed with since i got them, bunches of clod and crawling parts, TONS of tires and wheels from various things here and there. and then there is all the rc10 stuff, which when added to all the stuff above puts me at critical mass. stuff stuff stuff everywhere...

at times when i'm more optimistic i think to myself, "just list/sell/ship one thing at a time", but then i'd be doing it forever...

i have considered emailing rcvoltar from ebay since i believe he's somewhat local and seeing if he would be interested in taking the entire lot off my hands. at the point of mass that i'm currently at, its worth more to me to just get rid of it all than it is to try and squeeze every last penny out of it by listing it all separate on ebay or wherever.

I've bought some parts just because I thought I could use them on a potential project in the future on a car I never wound up getting. I've aquired lots of miscelaneous stuff, and found that some aftermarket parts don't always fit so well with others, even theough they are for the same car.

I got roasted by someone on here for buying the wrong stuff all the time...jez I'm on the other side of the World so I have to rely on what the sellers tell me...it seems that about half of what I get is wrong..got some titanium steering rods off an ebay seller..the first set he sent me were for a truck even though I told him it was an early gold pan...then he sent me another set that he was certain would fit..only 2 of the 6 are even close to fitting..I thought it was an easy ask for a seller who lists heaps of RC10 stuff...frustrating?..it sure is...I've been wanting to finish my BBT sprint car and need these rods to do it...it's been over a month now and it's driving me nuts..

I know Jim(rcvoltar) personally and have bought quite a bit from him, he gets a lot of stuff from Craigslist and he has ads at the hobby shops down here in Joliet. He buys lots all the time, don't know what he pays but it's worth a try.
