The problems I had back the day with the six gear was that the gear that was pressed onto the diff tube would slip off and grenade the tranny gears. also you had to pin the diff rings to keep them from slipping. Really I always thought the stealth was a blatant rip off of the MIP tranny. It's too bad that Eustace couldn't have patented it although the MIP tranny really owes it's roots to the sand scorcher transmission
superfly wrote:how did you pin the diff rings? I thought they were suppose to move on the hub so i started to lub them? Is that wrong?
You would drill and tap a hole on the pieces that hold the rings. You would put a set screw in just enough to sit into a notch you would have to make on the inside edge of the diff ring.
superfly wrote:ok but why is pinning the diff better. what changes in performance?
i'm sure this isn't the best reason for pinning the diff, but there's no reason for the diff rings to spin on the diff hubs. all your doing is creating friction, and friction is bad.
also, you don't need to use a diff pinning kit. a couple drops of ca glue will hold the rings to the hubs just fine. i've never had one let go before it was time for a rebuild.
superfly wrote:I've never run anything but the 6gear tranny and in my opinion I think the 6 gear was pretty much bomb proof if built correctly. I've never had any problems running mine and they have always been super smooth. However every 6 gear tranny i've bought off of ebay have all been assembled with some mistakes and have eaten themselves up...
That said i'm sure the newer Stealth tranny is superior in every way or else they'd have kept the 6gear. Personally though I like the 6 gear with 32 pitch gears ...i've never even chipped a tooth in all those years of running lol
ditto ^
Scr8p, I do the same with ca glue and have had no problems. If I recall, the manual explains this step as a "racer's tip." I also wet sand diff rings.
I don't know if there is a thread about this somewhere, but what are the differences between the b2 and b3? They look very similar to me and I know there was a b2 to b3 conversion kit back in the day.

Seems to be lots of differences but a good read for me as I will happily take a B2 or B3 or a B3 converted as I know these are getting thin on the ground!
CAT XL to XLS, what changed??
I remember when the original SWB came out, then the conversion kit came out quickly afterward, then you could buy the XLS, but I don't remember the XL being available as a kit, but looking on the front cover of my...

Compared to the XLS the XL CAT....
...does not have turnbuckles
...steering bellcranks does not pivot on the brass inserts but on the screw itself (nut on top)
...has rear stabilizer bar
...has zero degree front shock mount
...only has one hole...
The trans on the left came off an LXT I had and the right an X2. The outdrives on the LXT look beefier, are they fully interchangable? They look like they do away with the rings the X2 has between the case and outdrive?

+1
There's a Losi parts variation thread somewhere on the board, there are LOTS of variations over the years.
I've had my RC10CE with Stealth since the early '90s and am looking to build one up for my 5 year old. I'm trying to figure out the difference between Stealth, 6-gear, and 3-gear transmissions on listings.
I'd appreciate a quick primer or direction...

Thanks for the reply and welcome message. That clears it up.
It's so cool to find an active discussion about these awesome little machines - there's lots to learn here!
I wrote up a list of differences between the old and new RC10 parts. I'm running it by the engineer in charge to double-check. I'm hoping I'll be able to post it here when approved.
Those of you who have already spotted differences by the photos...

Stamped aluminum parts are. Not sure on the towers.
Ok, I'm so tired of searching and common words like arm is not recognized. Maybe I'm just being lazy but can we please have a nice picture thread starting here showing the differences in the parts? For instance, I looked on the History page but it...

Cool thanks for the comparison. Now I really regret not getting a pair of those RPM Bullet arms Sheldon's used to have listed. :|
