What's with the cut rear bulkheads? Were they cut from the factory or is it something everyone did during assembly? Mine are cut too and I always thought the previous owner hacked it, but the more I see I'm beginning to wonder. Mine is all black G10 with spring loaded drive cups and a mini dogbone in the center.

That is an earlier O/R. The rear tires are correct and the later ones had the short dogbone and outdrives, they also had all black fiberglass. The two cut down bulkheads really wanted to twist in and cause drag on the axles, so you had to drill a hole under each one and put a short screw in them to keep them square with the outer bulkheads. That is one nice car.
Edit- the later ones also had black body mounts and a black pro-line bumper.

Yup, these were drilled for the bulkhead screws. I always loved these in the magazines, I honestly think running them would be a disappointment but they are killer to look at. I have another chassis and most of the pieces to build a updated runnable version that would keep the concept but use modern axle and diff, shocks, etc. it's on my to-do list

I pulled my Invader box out the other day and it's not as old as I thought. The customer questionnaire is dated 1993, I would have thought the car late 80's, I'm sure the early ones were.

I can't bring myself to cut out and mount the original body either, upon saying that a few years ago I've seen the same body still available from the dirt oval mob that bought the old Bolink oval molds. Does anyone know if it's still available ? It's the same as gomachv's.

can someone explain the rear axle design to me? i just dont get it... is this spring on top of a diff?

Other Jeff, or anyone else, do you have a pic of the underside of the front arms? curious how the lower shock mounts after passing through the arm.

I'd love to have shocks on mine, but not sure what is period correct. I have a different front arm set up that I assume uses a mono shock. Not sure what shocks were intended to be used on my chassis...

It was just a simple 90 degree angle made of aluminum. Ill snap a pic when I get a chance. It would be very easy to copy. Front and rear are the same.

The spring allows the axle to bend when the suspension compresses.

Dunno how well these cars went, not very well I imagine as they were a swing axle design. Custom works cars of a similar vintage would eat them alive. They seemed to make them for a couple of years though.
