My Cougar Project

That's great, I was wondering how good of a fit they were, sounds like a worthwhile purchase.
I have a works gear cover I was going to send them to reproduce, but they are not accepting anything right now.

Please keep persevering with getting the 'Works' gear cover re-produced - I could really do with one of those! (I'm sure Penguin or Kamtec would be able to do that also?)

Looks like a great project, I will be watching with interest!

P.S; Those arms on that front end look interesting, certainly not std Schumacher!

yeah I know a few guys who would really like one of those gear covers.
I have spoken to Keith at Kamtech a few times, but he's always so busy !
And I don't know the guys at Penguin.
Maybe I'll drop them a note, see what comes of that.

and, no the white arms are home made !
not by me, and I won't be using them

I have an e-bay win on the way, so I should be able to build 1 great car for racing, one near new for shelf sitting duties, and a couple of runners for sale or trade.
Picked up my B4 threaded shocks tonight, from a fellow local racer, not even built yet, so I need to get that done.

Still need to find wheels though.

Stu look up BUGLE on this forum. Thomas has the molds to make the lexan gear cover and he does a god job of them. He made me a few in the past. I have dropped him a PM on RCTECH also and hope to meet up with him in the near future. I'll look into having a small batch of these formed up and see about getting those who need them in one go.

That would be great if you could Jason, I would buy one from you. I think I sent Bugle a message some time ago but seem to remember not having a reply - I guess he's not much of a regular visitor to this site?

I race with (well same meeting but tends to race 4wd) Steve Haskins (Mr Penguin) at Hinckley here in the UK... if there were any problems with getting more covers made by Bugle, i'm sure Steve would be only too happy to make a reproduction given an original moulding to work from.

I asked a couple of re-poppers if they wanted to use my works gear cover, but neither wanted to take it on at the time. One of them said gear covers were a real pita to get right.. Besides, the fact that the original is completely destroyed in the process, puts me off getting any of the originals I have repro'd.

Years ago I had my good friend Ant Howard repro my lexan gear cover set without a problem. At the time he owned an animatronics business and had a lot of fabricating experience of all kinds. He had a set of 'bucks' which in later years was kind enough to allow me to pass on to Thomas which from memory he used to make some of his own. Either way, he has the bucks last time we saw one another and has the ability to pull forms from. Thomas has a business named Bugle Boy Racing where he makes custom lexan designs for modern day race cars. After doing a little research I found that his designs are to picked up by Team Azarashi. Very impressive.
I'm sure if Thomas has the time he would make these lexan gear cover sets. Now, how can we make this worth his while?

Probably worth starting a 'Who wants a Works C2 gear cover thread' to guage interest & get some quantities with which to present to BUGLE Rather than clogging up stulec52's build thread

Plan is 1 racer, 1 basher, 1 shelf sitter and maybe 1 to sell

picked up a couple of shorty Li-Po packs as I think mounting the batteries down the centre is still the best for weight distribution.
just playing about with the how and where to put everything now.
The car will be brushless powered, 13.5, so I do need to find room to mount a fairly large speedo.
Tiny receiver though, and then there's the steering.
The top deck idea from the other thread is way over engineered for my taste.
I'll try a couple of things and post some pics when I find a nice setup

But I will be building it to something usable with a 13.5 in it.

I understand that the only Cougar to get a geared gearbox was the Mk2 Club 10 - all others had belt drives.

I've been trying to look up that bearing size for you & I think I've come across an error in the manual - the regular Cougar2 manual indicates the bearing as U1028l in the assembly steps - which is listed as 1/4" x 3/8" under the Speed Secrets 'Transmission' section of the parts list... but under the 'Suspension' section is the part # U1248V Ballbearing 1/8" x 1/4" which is what seems to be indicated on the exploded view for the 'Works' Cougar that I have saved on this PC & seems to be about the right size?
