Re: All Alloy Tube Chassis (near completion)
Great job Mike, mad skills you have! Looking forward to seeing it finished. For the moment it looks like it has been brought back from the bottom of the ocean, but I'm sure it will soon look a killer. What do you plan to attach to those top and front O-shaped brace?

Re: All Alloy Tube Chassis (near completion)
ok ok, so i know it looks terrible and rusty and whatever, but its all stainless and all the black and brown gook is just excess flux, im going to go over the entire chassis to clean the brazes and remove all the flux, then have the chassis sandblasted to entirely clean it.
From there, i am going to get it powdercoated, which i havent really decided what i want yet, but i would like to get a "matte" black finish on it, not sure if its possible with powder.
The Nuts on the Top and Front bumper are for LED Aluminum ram lights that will turn on with a 3rd channel switching device i found online, it will allow me to turn on and off the lights from the remote. I am bolting in a windshield, and going to cut up a pro-tech 1 body to cover the front and sides only, the top part will remain exposed
I am fabricating a aluminum wing next also, dual level, will be cool lol
I Just need to find alloy rims now that match, or some new tires to match rims that are readily available lol. right now i need 1.5" front rim, 2.0" rear rim, matching alloy preferable lol, i know i know its impossible haha
Going to decide on a driver and have him painted up also, and make black netting on the windows (one of the pictures has some of the metal netting i found on the white shelf in the background..
also going to use my vinyl cutter to cut up some masks and logos and paint them on the body
Forgive the long windedness, but im writing it all so i can remmeber it lol.

these

they look great, gives it almost a tamiya rough rider look, and will actually be able to be turned on and off with the remote with the help of this...

Re: All Alloy Tube Chassis (near completion)
also, any comments and criticisms or ideas are gladly welcome of course,
tommorow, im going to clean all the brazes, remove the flux, then im having it sandblasted tommorow night to clean all the crap up on it. then going to buff most of it with a polishing wheel and dremel wheel, then going to powdercoating hopefully..
So any ideas post em up here asap for me lol.

I think it is looking great. Can't think of anything.

Re: All Alloy Tube Chassis (near completion)
thanks. after i find a nice driver which i think im going to go with one of terry.sc's molds there, and a few other random touches. im thinking of fabricating some sort of metal top with a air dam and possibly a built in wing. i like the look of the chassis by itself but feel its needs a wing, i guess ill see once i get it mounted up and such

Re: All Alloy Tube Chassis (near completion)
are you gonna run a support tube from the "cabin" area to the chassis base? if it were to be a runner and flip upside down, I would worry about the chassis collapsing.

Re: All Alloy Tube Chassis (near completion)
well made a few changes to the chassis structurally (looked at some pictures of real sand buggies on ebay..
going to make a tamiya super champ inspired aluminum sheet roof peice, and possibly a custom aluminum wing..
installed a new hydra drive unit and conversion peice, and still looking for rims/tires lol..
pictures soon, maybe tommorow lol

Re: All Alloy Tube Chassis (near completion)
Would a new wild willy head/ shoulders be too large for the buggy? I was always fond of the whacked out look he gives.

Re: All Alloy Tube Chassis (near completion)
it would be just a little too large, a sand scorcher driver would fit, which im waiting on terry.sc to make them/give me a total price.. But also if i cut the edges and trim off a associated lexan driver, they would fit fine too..
I could cut the wild willy's driver in half, and make him a "not so wild" willy lol.
I am trying to figure out a way to mount up a body too. if i punch 2 holes in the roof for the headlight mounts, a protech 1 body would fit DIRECTLY over it perfectly.. but dont wanna cover too much to be honest
