Having grown up with the "socialist" NHS available to me I do find strange the every man for himself attitude regarding healthcare in the USA.
It costs every worker in the UK roughly 4% of our income, up to a maximum of around £2500 a year if you are earning over £50,000. If you are a very low income you pay nothing into the system. For that we get a health service that provides any medical service we need, whether we can pay or not is irrelevant.
My own example just a few weeks ago. I injured my hand in a work accident, mid afternoon so hospital was quiet and was seen in A&E within 30 minutes, patched up and sent to a specialist hospital. I could have been taken there but chose to make my own way so I could go home and get changed out of my work clothes. Got examined by a specialist plastic surgeon within an hour of getting there, and admitted that night. The next afternoon I was operated on, and the next day I was discharged. Now got 6 months of weekly visits to an occupational therapist to get my hand working again. It has all cost me nothing extra.
Yeah sounds like the USA. Our politicians are working so hard too put the citizens against each other too create turmoil. They benefit by being able to pass bills too help them and hurt us without us knowing about it.
