The motor pigtail is soldered on now. I was lucky, the "NOVAK RACING" lettering happened to line up just right, no wasted wire. Now to figure out the next step...

Have you found soldering Deans without melting the plastic a challenge ? I've ruined a few that way. I need to invest in a proper iron, the weller gun I have is a piece of crap. I see a trip to Harbor Freight in my future.

I've never had a problem with melting Deans plastic. My iron is 50watt with a 1/4" wide chisel tip (I have bigger and smaller). I pre-tin the wire and the connector.

Ditch the gun, get a nice iron with replaceable tips.

do yourself a favor and also install a mate to the connector, this will help keep the pins aligned. But yeah, the trick is to tin each wire and each tab separately, and while everything is still fresh, bring all three things together, wire, iron and tab. solder should flow pretty neatly.

Some really good tips, thanks!!
While I'm at HF, think I'll look for something like this so I can easily see what is being soldered and won't need to chase after it across the bench.

Keep up the good work! I love seeing vintage pan cars come back to life!

I've nearly got the wiring done now. All that's left is the big cap for the ESC. Sabula Tech has come thru with a Porsche 930 LeMan's body! I got the first one from the new batch so a second body (error) was included!

Totally gnarly dude! Your soldering skills are very good! You would pass NASA certifications! Looking forward to see it painted up. :D

Thanks mate! I have many years of soldering to hone my skills by building brass/wire slotcar chassis back in the day.

I made a rear body mount in the shape of a boomerang out of 1/16" thick blue G10 this morning. It uses the mounting holes for the rear body mounts. I added some 1/8" aluminum standoffs and it looks pretty good. I used the molded in body mount hole on the Porsche body. I also installed the ESC cap by splicing it in the + _ wires and installed some shrink wrap on it.

I've gotten the body mounted this morning. I have 3 stacked AE #8 washers on the rear body post. I'll machine a one piece spacer later on today. I have the exact wheel wells marked with a sharpie pen. Next is to get them marked out for clearance in a "Porsche" looking way.

Wow, great looking build. I can tell you've done this a time or two!

How did you get the rings spaced so well on the aluminum support for the front end? Do you have a late, or are you a Jedi master with a Dremel too? :D

Hey ChuckW. This was my first time building a 12th scale. Though I consider myself pretty handy with a Dremel tool, I do have an old Taig brand micro lathe.
