I admire you guys who do this by hand. Lots of time and effort involved, and the results look fantastic!

Re: Kyosho Optima for NVC
Now it starts to looks like something.
I had to file down the front gearbox aluminum plate to fit the cassis CF-plate closer to the cassis rails.
With the cassis plate in place I had to figure how to attach the steering servo sins I don’t want it attach it to the radio plate. But I finely got it in place. I will use a Turningy lowprofil servo; it’s a low cost servo from Hobby King. I don’t know much about the quality more than what you can read on Hobby King’s web site.
With the servo in place I will try to modify the radio plate the upcoming weekend. I made a ruff drawing how to modify it.
For battery holder I have used Associated B44.2 holders. I drilled a set of extra holes so I can move the packs 15mm forward. I have been told that the Optima are a bit heavy at the rear.
I have also replaced the slipper pads in the gear limiter (the first model). I modified pads from Losi’s MINI 8IGHT; I only have to cut away a few mm to make them fit. I did some cuts in the pads before gluing them to the gear. If the glue will hold up when heat start to build up I don’t know, time will tell…

Nice, logical design mods, Lars. Moving the battery weight forward should help with the tendency to understeer, and I like your creative idea to turn the limiter gear into a true slipper...if it actually works, that would be awesome. Keep us informed when you do a test-drive with a powerful motor.

Re: Kyosho Optima for NVC
Looks great Lars. If you still need 2.2" wheels have a look for Ho Bao wheels part number 11274W or 11274B.
They are 12mm hex, come in a pack of four and come in black or white.
I've added pictures to show what the offset is like on these wheels. The yellow wheel and steering hub is from a Kyosho Maxxum. The third photo is the Ho Bao wheel with the Maxxum steering hub.
The holes in the centres of the Ho Bao wheels are 5mm. If you're using the stock Optima stub axles which are 4mm you could use some brass tubing with an OD of 5mm and an ID of 4mm to keep the wheels centred on the axles. I use these wheels on the rear of my Tomahawk and have added the tubing to the wheels which works well.
One thing to note is that the 5mm hole in the centre of these wheels can be a bit tight. I ran a 5mm reamer through them to make the tubing easier to insert.
Hope this helps.

Re: Kyosho Optima for NVC
Thanks guys!
I will give you a report on the slipper Marc!
Thanks for the tip Chris, but I think I got it cowered. I think the narrow front is the issue, but I will do a new measuring when I got the "type 2" front reedy. Just whiting for the longer CVD's.
I had my radio tray go to a fitness center and losing 40% of its weight...

Re: Kyosho Optima for NVC
It was a long time sins I did any update, but last week my 65.5mm CVD's arrived from Hobby Japan. It took almost 4 weeks before it arrived. So after I had mounted the type 2 frontend with LA-59 C-hubs, and I'm rather satisfied. In the picture you also see the cut down rear wheels from a RB5. Those has a few more mm negative offset each, but I think I will use Lazer ZX-5 front wheels with a 1mm spacer.
I did a compressing between my "Miss Javelin" and the Optima. The most obvious deferens is the wheel-base and the improved steering.
Today I did the first test run to see if everything was running smoothly and especially the updated gear limiter with modern slipper pads. And Marc, it work rely nice with a new LRP V10 2x17 motor! I will give you an update after the race, you can't say if it will work in the long run . Now I will lean back and to see if I can do anything more to improve the car before the race in August.
I also named the car "Earl's Optima", figure that one out guys...

I agree it's looking awesome! Fixed a lot of the weaknesses like the shock angles and I can't wait to hear how the slipper works out for ya

Love the Earl's stickers.
Maybe you can use an AN fitting somewhere on be frame as a balancing weight.
You should probably have dome red and blue anodised pieces on it too

Very nice.. The work you did on this is top notch.. I think the shock color combination would be perfect for an Earl's themed car.. The classic Earl's fitting colors.. Love it..
