I assumed it was already installed, and that we just couldn't see it.

The status is that it is still in development, but I have been SOOOOO swamped I haven't had a chance to even look at it for some time. Hopefully in the near future (for real this time, lol) I can pick it up again. I mean, the hardest part is done, basically I just need one or maybe two more iterations on a couple of the parts, then get it on the track before claiming it's done and making the conversion available to the public. And yes, the trans case and rear bulkhead will be printed, rear tower will be cut by GoMachV (thanks!), and motor plates will be machined by durb69 (thanks!). Everything else is off the shelf AE parts.

Alrighty guys, I'm officially working on this again. Unfortunately, I lost the CAD models of the last iteration of the parts, so so far all i've done is (hopefully) get myself back to where I was last as far as the models and made a small improvement or two while I was at it, based on what I could remember. I'm going to try to print these out this weekend and if all looks well, I may send them to Shapeways and have parts printed that I can actually run. I want to get the car on the track and sort it out before I make anything available. Stay tuned.

I would love to see this come to light. Our local track has recently switched to carpet, and I really need to make my World's Car into a mid-motor design to even be competitive. *Crossing fingers*

I managed to get the bulkhead and trans case models modified back to where they were and print and test fit them. I also made a slight change to the shock tower to improve how it fits. There's one or two minor changes I want to make to the trans case, and I need to redesign the motor plate because it's one of the files that got lost, then I think I'm ready to have Shapeways make the trans case and bulkhead and Jeff and durb69 make the real tower and motor plate... I could be driving this thing in 2-3 weeks if all goes well!

Out of curiosity, what kinda printer you using? what's the rough specs? like nozzle / layer height?

I'm using a FlashForge Creator Pro, 0.2mm layers in ABS.

So pleased your working on this again, was just looking at my freshly powder coated worlds chassis thinking it needs your MM conversion!!

Well, it's official, I made some small updates to the trans case and bulkhead and uploaded and ordered them from Shapeways
Now I need to work with Jeff and Durb on the tower and motor plate. This thing's going to be real before we know it!

Now it's really starting to look official!

Oops, lol.

I got the trans case and bulkhead from Shapeways and started assembling the trans case. I carefully reamed and tapped all the holes, reamed the bearing bores, and started putting in gears, from the input shaft working toward the diff. Went to pit the diff in and saw this:



Uhhh, Oops! Somehow the idler nearest the diff ended up too close to the diff! You can see in the pic how far it's sticking into the recess for the diff gear. I thought I had the CAD model set up so that couldn't happen... guess not!!!
So some relatively minor tweaking of the trans case model and I should be back on track.

I just got back from a 10 day trip to SE Asia, so I haven't had time to work on it any. While I was gone though the updated trans case arrived with the (hopefully) fixed gear spacing. I'll update this thread when I have a chance to try and assemble it.
