Matching gold pan paint

I would think that this must have been discussed before, but I cannot find any information after trying several searches. I was just wondering if there was any particular transparent paint currently available that is a close match to the vintage gold anodized finish? I know there were several shades throughout production runs, I'm just trying to get "close".

I know a few companies make colored clearcoat, and I've even thought of looking into automotive paint as an option. I'd like to refinish a really messed up pan that I have from ebay, and I'd like to touch up some shocks that have nicks in the caps. Please post any info (even a link to a topic that I might have missed) Thanks!

until you'd get done wasting time and money on paint to try and make the parts look like anodizing, you could've just had the stuff anodized and it would actually look right.

If you plan on using it as a runner don't waist your time painting it. As far as paint goes not much out there that matches the anodizing.

Thanks for the replies! I figured as much -waste of time & money chasing something that's impossible to achieve. I'm good at those kinds of projects though

It would definitely be for a runner, so yeah, I'm sure it's not worth it. I'll probably just leave it as is then maybe someday have it actually anodized with some other parts to make it worth my while. I know I saw a few anodizing threads around, so I'll be looking into those to see how much this would cost.

if the bottom is very scratched up i would look into having the chassis powder coated. it is normally cheaper than anodizing and would fill in most of the scratches. if the anodized look is what you are after you can get it done with powder coat by laying down a silver or gold base and then a candy transparent color on top.

yeah scratched up is an understatement in this case! I had planned to sand it down as much as I could before attempting any kind of finishing on it. I'd have to check locally about powder coating though. I have a feeling that what they'd want to charge then paint on top of that would be getting close to the anodizing...I don't know for sure obviously, but it just seems that that might be how it would work out.

i don't know about it costing more than anodizing. for the chassis, nose plate, and motor plate set i pay $20 for any color they have in stock. so far i have had 1 bubble gum pink set, 2 flo orange, 1 white, and 1 candy blue that i have had done. as far as what color i plan to do next i have not decided. but first i want to get a few builds off my bench.

as far as anodizing a lot of places have a minimum order of around $120 or so. that's what i have found semi local to me anyway.

Oh man, that's a BIG difference! It will depend on local availability though. I'll have to check around and see what I can find.

The places I use locally for anodising are $60 per tree, and I can usually get 2-3 cars out of it. There was a link on here to a mail order company that charges less for just one cars worth of parts. -Jeff
