Adam's gold pan and graphite runners

Post by abailey21 »

I'm not sure what and why yet but I think I may have a solid start.

I'm planning a semi modern runner. I picked up a box full of gold pans from a friend for about a hundred bucks. I've taken most of the good parts and put them on my brother in laws graphite runner that i'm building up for him. I still have a fairly decent size pile of original parts laying around but the owner dyed almost all the plastic black I'll probably sell or trade most of it once I've gained access to the for sale section.

I do know I've begun my build this afternoon when i won this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160550252073&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I'll start posting pics later tonight or tomorrow when I steal the wifes camera back from her

Its funny, I was watching that just to see what they were going for. I have one sitting in a box that I might put in an RPM chassis 10T. Good luck with your build.

Anyone know how long it normally takes to get parts from Dynotech???

I placed an order 2 weeks tomorrow and I have had only one email from them, they haven't responded to mine or phone calls

due to the economy, chad had to go get a "real job" and not do the r/c thing full time. probably the reason for the delays.

Like Scr8p said, he has not been there full time anymore- I talked to them last week and they are backed up, but will always deliver

I wasn't mad or anything, more inquisitive than anything

Sucks to hear that he wasn't able to sustain full time anymore

I don't normally get worried about not receiving anything until about 3-4 weeks considering most of my parts orders are coming from Japan

How are you guys cutting down the aluminum chassis? I've been searching for a how to/template on here for a few days and I'm coming up empty handed.

I love the look is this and I'd like to do it myself if i knew the trick, I would assume you would draw up your pattern on one side and stick on it's side in a band saw?????????

Looking for the a side like this...

Acutally it is easier than you think but you need the right tools for the job.

I have done several of these and have always used a dremel with an inch and 1/2 metal cut-off blade. I always measure where I will cut and run tape along the edge I want to preserve. Start cutting slow and steady. Once you have your material cut off, I use a 4 inch DA sander (orbital sander) with a 220 grit. The sander takes all the rough edges out of the tub and gives a really nice finish in the end.

Big thing is to take your time. If you have those two items, you can produce a really nice finish on the tub. Here are two I have done.

Thanks man, it's kind of comical that both my Dremel's are on their last legs, I'm in the market for a new one and I've been looking at this "newer" cutting wheel what's your thoughts on it??

I also found this one which would probably be the one you're referring too????

That a nice looking 10, I use the Dremel tool with a Cut-Off Wheel (a) (EZ406 1 1/2-Inch EZ Lock Rotary Tool Cut-Off Wheel and Mandrel Metal Cutting Starter Kit). Use some layers of marking tape on a cutting board and cut the design and then tape the side you want to keep on the chassis like bigjeepzz mentioned. I got ones slowly to score the line I want and then go over several time. This usually leaves s a very nice finish on it but I go over with a hand file metalworking tool (b).
For graphite and fiberglass the best cutting will is a Diamond Wheel (c). They are a bit expensive but they cut very, very well (I have not cut any aluminum yet).

 Seriously, that is one good looking car.
