Early Edinger restore

Post by greene-r74 »

I need to finish up a few little odds and ends but this car will be up for sale soon. Just wanted to show off the new paint I did this weekend. I was going to do a red white and blue theme, but after I got the black and the blue down I changed my mind and ended up with this. Kind of a whats old is new is old theme.

Nice looking paint. Maby just like the box art and bring the colors up to it as well. Or retro like I used to do bitd on some of mine and make it black. As I remember I did that so I could interchange wings depending on what I was driving and not need to worry about them matching different bodies.

I like your color choices, and red, white & blue is over-done anyway. ;) Just use the same combo on your wing with a simple striping scheme. I'd use black & blue as the main colors, with some narrow stripes to match the silver & teal pinstriping on the body.

This is a subtle paint scheme, and well-executed.

However, if you are going to sell it, maybe you should paint up another body in a more generic and recognizable pattern with more generic colors? I'm only saying this because if you *know* that you are going to sell it, some combination of red/white/blue is probably going to fetch a little more on eBay, probably more than the $13 that the new body would cost.

I mean, an RC10 that has been this carefully restored with a mechanical speed control is obviously going to sit on someone's shelf ... and the kind of people who are looking to buy that kind of thing from someone instead of doing it themselves tend not to be the most imaginative of people.

I actually have another body to paint, I have an earlier Edinger car for myself that I need to paint. I was going to paint another one and keep the one I like best. We'll see. Possibly a variation of the box art car. Maybe like a photographic negative of it. Black purple green and blue!! :) Also kicking around the idea of selling the body separately. To sell together I might have to bump the reserve up a bit.

Black and blue just lets everyone know that you bring the pain.

Hmm maybe that's why I like that combo so much!

Very nice. I was just thinking that clear wing would look great if you painted it black and had the colored stripes from the body flow & wrap around onto the wing, in a "C" shape.

Awesome retro paint.

I really like retro schemes but original (non-box art). Back when we bought those cars for the first time, most of us wanted to do something original and not just copy the box. While I understand to some degree the desire for box art, I love to see people's original expression come out. Really, really nice.

What did you use for masking? The lines are really crisp. Liquid mask? Or what brand of tape? I will have a yoke body to paint (likely can - airbrush in storage atm) and will need some tips.

very clean car. i have to ask did u have a complete kit ? I have been buying bits and pieces to copy my original in 85' having lots of trouble finding those tires fronts and rears.
retro or not I do love the scheme. It is what should be on that era of car..as for the wing. I suggest looking straight down through it and copy what you see from the body..
weeee weee wewe weeeee weeeee wewewe..pure addrenaline
