Kyosho GALLOP Mk2 (shelf queen)
For some time I have had a want for a really nice Gallop Mk2 buggy. The box art design of this car really sparks my interest and I have been on the hunt for cars and parts for some time.
Finaly I got a break when I won an original Gallop on eBay for a song while locating two of the Mk2 cars from a member of Tamiyaclub.
The original Gallop was in such mint condition I could hardly believe my luck while the 2x Mk2's were in need of a lot of work (and parts).
The aim was simple. Build a shelf car and a second for the race track on vintage race days. This example is my shelf queen.
The very best of all the parts (along with nip items) were used to build this Mk2. Infact I built both of the Mk2 cars at the same time focusing all of the nicer parts on this one. I can certainly tell you these cars are a real handful to build especialy when you need to clean, prep and sort all the bits that go into these cars. I lost count of how many hours went into the build but it has been one of the most 'involved' build's I've done to date.
I tried my best to paint and decorate the lexan items as per box art but those with a keen eye will learn that the production shell differs from that of the box art aswell are the decals to some extent. The lines of the shell are not the same so my guess would be the proto shell used for the box art photo was changed for production.
Anyway here it is. Im chuffed with the final product and hope you will be too.
Cheers-Jason.

Awesome, I have a Progress project that has been waiting for years in my basement. I know I will spend tons of time on it when I start, why I never started it and you just confirmed my fear Jason. One day, I would like to drive one of these. Good stuff!

Nice one David. The Gallop I bought was in brilliant condition but sadly not the model I prefer. Although I do like roll cage buggies this one was not to my taste. I borrowed some parts from that car so now it's just a pile of parts.

Jason, that's a great looking car! You should be very proud of your work on this rare car!

Thank you Gary. I find the Gallop Mk2 infectious to look at. It's kinda ugly, a little disfunctional and a even weird in places. Definately an old looking buggy.
Probably why I like it soo much!

Re: Kyosho GALLOP Mk2 (shelf queen)
Thank you for the comments guys. I have just finished setting up my runner with electrics and given it a test run on my driveway.
I have the 4WS set up and even though the front has more steering than the rear the car 'turns in' very quickly. Ofcourse this is hardly a track report so I'm sure there would be a different story there also.
I will try and get some pics up tomorrow.

Re: Kyosho GALLOP Mk2 (shelf queen)
Ok so I lied. I just snapped these pics in my garage.
Both cars are very very similar and without the lexan you would be hard pressed to tell the difference. I had some problems painting the second shell (not pictured) so I have this used one on it for the time being. It will do for now.
