Has anyone seen this Novak esc before?
I have a pretty good collection of old Novak electronics and have seen just about everything out there but I have never seen or heard of this model before. It seems to be an early 1X chassis and the person I got it from said he purchased it in 1984. Novak could create an entire web page on all of the esc's they made before "their first electronic speed control, the NESC-1."

I'm curious now too, have you sent a pic to Novak asking the model?

Re: Has anyone seen this Novak esc before?
I have not called Novak yet although that may be the next step. I was thinking it was a very early version of the Novak 2 or 1x but the heat sink arrangement is different and why is there a resistor? sticking up through the casing? If you look at pictures of the early version of the NESC 1 or "RC10 Box Art ESC" it has three adjustment options, black tape, 3 wires etc. but the essential lay out is the same in regards to the heat sinks etc.

Nice find, I had never seen one of these before. And for reference, here's my early Nesc-1:

Asso_man! thanks for posting the picture and a quick question, what material is that heat sink made out of aluminum? Also do you happen to have the dimensions of it? I did call Novak and they were very nice but they had no clue what this was. When I told them it has a transistor ( Still not sure that is what it is) sticking out of the case it completely confused them. It seems no one has been been around long enough at Novak to remember all this ancient history.....

Re: Has anyone seen this Novak esc before?
I think this is indeed a transistor for the BEC what´s sticking out of the case as other Novak ESC also have their BEC at this area.
What makes me wonder are the three adjusters as all of the other Novak ESC from their timeline have just 2 of them beside the newer versions with current limiting.
Also this transistor interferes with the decal and the labeling of the brake adjuster. I don´t think Novak would do something like that for a production unit so I think this is an early prototype.

I think it is an early Novak 2 - I had one in 1984/85 but can't find a pic. It burned out and Novak replaced it with a 4 in 1986. I still have the hand written note from Bob

The heat sink is machined aluminium. I could take the dimensions of it if you really need them. Note that the sticker on your early "2" is exactly the same as the one on mine. I also wish Novak could update their timeline and put some pics and histroy of these two models. In almost 10 years of looking at feePay and vintage rc forums, I have only seen so far 3 of these "RC10 box art" Novak ESC, they are out there, but still quite rare.Wild27 wrote:Asso_man! thanks for posting the picture and a quick question, what material is that heat sink made out of aluminum?
