Flashlight Infatuations, anyone else share?
I've always had a thing for the big bruiser Maglite flashlights. The aluminum, the black anno, the ability to use them as a club if needed.... I bought my first a 4D as a teenager and still have it, and then later a 5C before they discontinued them. I know Surefire and others have taken over as the king of high-end especially for law enforcement, but I really like the Mags. And they are still 100% made in the USA!
I decided I wanted to get a new one, and wanted the biggest currently made, which is the 6D. I ordered from actionlights.com and then accessorized with a different end cap (breaks glass) and different crown also in red anno. I also put in a Terralux 700 lumens 3-way LED drop-in, but unfortunately it takes away the ability to adjust the beam pattern by turning the head. Yes, it looks phallic!
This is the latest that I'm lusting after but I don't know if I can stomach the cost. I'll probably let it go because it's just silly, but the 7C is apparently the holy grail of rare, long discontinued Maglites.

"Excuse me sir, is that a Maglite in your pocket or...?"
I honestly never knew those came in those crazy sizes. Are they brighter than the shorter ones due to more voltage?

yeah, that's a good question I always had.....wondered what the benefit was, since the cells are in series, you will don't have improved capacity, and I always figured you had only so much lumens the lamp would provide.....

I have this as my EDC. Fenix PD20:
http://www.fenixlight.com/viewproduct.asp?id=84
It's small enough to fit in my pocket, and enough for my needs. I also liked the fact that it only needs 1 CR123A battery for which I use Surefire's. I looked into Surefires lights, but just can't justify their cost.
I did have a Maglite when I was younger, it was from my uncle. I remember it was black anodized. By the time the bulb failed, most of the anodizing was gone. I wonder where that went now..

I have a Maglite 4D, purchased it back in the late '80's or maybe early '90's. It was lost to me for a decade or so, then my Dad turned up with it just a couple months ago. I got it back from him (it didn't mean much to him, just a big flashlight) - cleaned it up and installed fresh D-cells! She's still as bright as ever.
One of the boys in the old neighborhood built a clasp to hold his 4D under the bench-seat in his truck - he could whip that thing out at the first sign of a rumble... Or when he got stuck in the mud... at night.

I bought a 6D off a snap on truck back in the 90's. It cost about 125 bux.It is still bright as Hell. I used to take it with me when I went camping and walk around at night and other campers thought I was a cop. I love that flashlight.

While I do keep a 4D flashlight in my pocket at all times, it only seems to leave a lot of dark and disappointed faces once the lights go out...

I have 5 Surefires, including the newer 6c LED, but the brighter Zenon standard bulb is a way better performer than the LED

Re: Flashlight Infatuations, anyone else share?
I've got a Surefire that I keep in the nightstand with my .40 Glock. I've had a 4 cell D Mag in both of my cars for years though because they can take a real beating. I bought an aftermarket LED for one of them and it was just pathetic. I forget the name of the company, but I think it had a raccoon or something as a logo. Since the Cree LED lights are so cheap now ($10), I rarely use anything else for day to day lights and leave my Surefire with the lithium batteries in it for when it is really needed.

Never trust a raccoon! I spend most of my time with an old school black mag lite chasing raccoons! I live in the woods and they love a free meal! It's futile though... Chase 'em away and then hear them an hour later partyin' 'round your trash cans while you lie in bed helplessly playing with your flashlight...call-911 wrote:raccoon

I have a 4D maglite and it has an old Xenon bulb in it. I wanted to get an OEM maglite LED bulb, but there isn't anywhere local. Do you know where to get them online?
