anyone else interested in a "on the bench" thread?

Post by billetproofcustoms »

If there is already a thread or topic out there like this, I apologize, please point me to it..

I dont know about everyone else, but I'm always interested to see what projects everyone else has going "on the bench". I love to look in the background of any pictures that are posted here and wonder.."hey, that looks like something interesting in the background, what is it?"
I'm also really interested seeing behind the scenes of some of these sick builds on this forum. Some of you guys do some killer work, and I for one would love to see where, and what you use to create these cool cars.
I'm not looking for full-on build threads or anything that specific, just what you have going/started/planned, what your workbench/area looks like, what future projects/builds we all may get to see posted here in the future, etc..It would certainly need a picture, or a few of your bench, maybe a quick description of whats on it, beyond that, I would assume it would move to an official build thread for that project.

I for instance have 7 project cars going right now in various stages of build, but I dont have a build thread for all of them.

Presently: 3 rc10's, 1 Tamiya Blitzer, 1 Bolink Eliminator pan car, 1 rc10l pan car, a custom Futaba FXT, and a composite Trinity chassis Rc10.

Hope this all makes sense?..

Thoughts?

kinda like what it sounds like you are mentioning- other than the "in the works" cars

exactly, that is definitely part of what I was wanting to see, but, yes, I would like a little "in the works" stuff to go along with it

something like this:
Shot of my whole bench:

These are 2 RC10 restorations in progress

Trinity chassis RC10

Bolink Eliminator 10 pan car

Custom Futaba FXT

This is my runner RC10, andys rear and wide front arms, Trinity "Ruby" 16t motor, and a Novak Rooster esc, this is the one I will be racing, thinking of updating to 2.2 wheels and tires..

I love the idea! Sometimes messy work benches covered in cool rc crap is better than a finished car.

Over the past while my work shop has been way too messy to work on so I usually end up bringing all my stuff upstairs to work in front of the big screen! Here's a shot I took while working on a pair of yokomo's. Much of both of those builds have changed drastically since this shot.

Jeff's place is a combination of RC Heaven and an RC graveyard. He's got crazy stuff all over the place!

Here's my messy workspace. I swear it was super organized a month or 2 ago. My workbench has a mix of modern and vintage stuff on it:
  • a- Slash
    b- Sprint 2 #1
    c- M04
d- Pro-XRT (in bits and pieces)
    e- 501x
    f- Galaxy
    g- Raider Pro
    h- SB-V2
    i- Sprint 2 #2
    j- Raider
    k- Turbo Optima
    l- Rocky
    m- Shadow
    n- 22
    o- RB5
    p- M05 pro
    q- Jeff's TC3
There are a whole bunch more cars and stuff all over the place. One of these days I'll have to reorganize my bench!

Ok, here's my mess the way it sits. I'm in the middle of three or four projects including rebuilding the entire rear end of my Yokomo 834B, A complete restoration of a Yok YZ-10, A Hot Trick Ultima project and my polished original Ultima waiting paitiently in the corner. There's also some Super Champ stuff going on in the background.

Speaking of chaos, here's what my hauler looks like after a day of racing:
tims_messy_hauler.jpg
I organize it the night before I go racing, but all hell breaks loose at the track, and I shovel it all back in to the bag before I go home.
I'll have to post a 'before' photo next time, just to prove I'm not a total disaster!
