NEED HELP!! 92 GMC heater problem.

Post by WillyThickfoot »

Hey guys, got a problem and hoping someone here may have a solution. We have a 92 gmc 1/2 ton and the heater is giving us some grief. Blower works great but the air gets trapped in the heater box. Happens on its own. Will be blowing great heat and all of a sudden it will stop. Fan continues but the heat wont come out of the floor, vents or def. To top it off its -22c right now. :(

Thanks, Dave

I can't remember if that model truck has cable, electric or vacume operated doors in the heater box. But i would say that one of the doors inside is not connected properly or broken and sometimes flops over and blocks the airflow.. The heater core is really easy to take out, remove it and look inside the box to see if anything is floating around and jamming it up. Or unhook the mode door and use a piece of wire or something to hold the door open in the position you want.

Willy, by the gas pedal, on the right side there is a few linkages that need some lubrication, and also from the passanger side on the left side. I had a few sporadic problems like that and it worked.
