rc10gt-rc10gt buggy conversion build

Post by discgolfer72 »

ohhhh so easy
i expected this to require me making several custom parts or finding non associated stuff but it was like i was building a kit lol

i started with this
Image

first i tore off the gt rear shock tower and lined up a rc10 buggy tower
its was actually almost an exact fit
i had to enlarage the lower holes as they were just a hair off
and then slot the upper part so i had a second set of mounting for strength

Image
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

next its by by gt front end
Image

and hello buggy

Image

installing the buggy front end again was pretty much just plug n play
i only had 1 small mod to do so that it would clear the servo .
just a small notch cut and 3 holes drilled so i can screw the nose plate tight (it is nitro lol)

dont see an edit option on the forum so sorry for the mutilple posts if there is one

local hobby shop has failed me again arggg
wanted to do this wone with 3/16 axles but alas no bearings at the lhs
so i had to go with the b2 cvd's i had nip
the problem with them is the shafts are just a bit to short so i needed some spacers
and guess what lhs had no 1/4 inner bushings/spacers
lucky they local ace nuts n bolts saved the day and they had some that were perfect

so now my cv's are installed
Image

the only thing the lhs had that i wanted was the rear hard shocks with a bit shorter travel than the golds
but damn i had to pay out the butt

lol busy day
prototype is finished

i just made an order for some andys/rpm front and rear arms
and picked up a front shock set to match the new rears (used the gold caps on the rear with the new hard shocks me likie)

now its time to strip it down to parts and clean clean clean

few ?

i will be painting the chassis and nose plate should i go blue ,neon green(like the old school 10t hop up chassis),or just black
also what do you think i should do for the motor

my lhs has a trx .12 for 99$ that should be tame enough for the lighter front end but im pretty new to the nitro gear what do you all think

Great conversion so far. It will be a handfull come drive time.

I would leave the color black. I think that would look the best.

As for a motor, not a fan of the TRX's. I would get an AE or a Picco motor. Much better quality than the TRX line.

You can use the gt rear hubcarriers with the rc10 arms if that helps fitTING better.DON

thanks

i guess its off to feepay again to find a ae or pico motor (my lhs kinda sucks they do more plane stuff than car/truck)

once the rpm arms come in i may use the gt carriers just because my buggy ones are beaters and the gt ones i have are like new

as far as paint i just could not pass it up lol
Image

it s a rc10 buggy you know lol

since its nitro and i know im gonna get a ton of chassis slap
ill be doing the underneath(and 1/16 of an inch up the sides ) in a rhino liner type stuff used to repair rusty car frames (its bullet proof )

That gold paint looks amazing. What is it? Hope it doesn't mind nitro

its pactra rc301 almost a perfect match to the old gold tub
i bought it to do my Chevy body on my black tub gt and thought id try it on the chassis

i will def be using a high heat clear coat made for painting car engines to prevent any paint melting off due to the nitro fuel

i have used the clear coat over the pactra paints before
if you lay it on heavy it will cause the pactra paint to crack and melt off (any good painter should know to not lay any paint on heavy )

but if you feather/mist it on (takes about 10 coats ) then it is good to go

as yoda would say "patience you must have my young padawan" to many people try and rush paint and just gob it on lol
i do arcade game resto and i see so many games that are full of runs and heavy spots

well cleaned up and everything installed

still waiting on my rpm front and rear arms and need to order a body

and bought 3 blue factory team screw kits yesterday so once the arrive it will get all blue hardware

picked up a factory team shock spring set for the front and rear today at the lhs so i can install the blue springs also got some misc gt motor parts from their junk box(or i like to call it pure gold box)
think i have finally purchased every singe old truck and buggy part from their junk box all that's left is on road stuff and some b3/t3 crap

also im still trying to find a motor the 2 i had here are just not wanting to start even tho they seem to have good compression
