Novak Atom - Help / Advice / Info Required.
Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Novak Atom.....? Would you recommend it or should I look at the Cyclone? It's pretty small from what I've seen but is it any good???
I used to have a T4 back in the '90s and the Atom looks like a decent esc for a vintage set-up.
Any input is appreciated.

I had one back in the day very similar to the cyclone only smaller and slightly less powerful although i believe it is still unlimited in what wind motor you can run with it. Very small size for its time and has multiple profiles and can be used with the pit wizard

If I had to choose I'd go with the Cyclone especially for vintage truck. Its just an all around better ESC.
Should be plenty still around.
You are supposed to run a Schottky Diode with the Atom, fyi.
I preferred Tekin myself.

Never had any experience with Tekin allthough it's a name that I have always associated with RC.
Which model would you recommend that I look at for my XX.....?
Thanks.

Cyclone is a great ESC. Guess it depends on what you are gonna do with the truck. Race, shelf, bash...
These days you could get any of the brushed stuff cheap but back then not everyone had the latest and greatest.
I had a Novak Racer EX someone else a Novak Tempest all very good IMO.
I also ran some version of the Tekin 411 which is good at the time. Better was the G-12c III, 420F. Tekin G-9 was my wholly grail cause it was "Triple Regenerating Supersonic" LOL. Think mostly ran on the oval. Tekin G-10 was very cool in the day, had tuning options instead of Novaks profiles and did not need an external device to tune(pit wizard).
If you ever heard of GM Racing they had a V8, V12 ESC which are good.
Not sure what else, depends if you want to go a few years back yet or a few ahead.
That is what I can remember.

I checked my 2 trucks that have been on the shelf since I walked away from racing, thinking 1999.
One has a GM V12 and the other an LRP V6.
Guess I had to try them all.

Thanks for the input.
I've had a look at the specs on the Novak website and the Cyclone looks like the best one so far. Now I just need to try and find one NIB.....if at all possible...!

I've never used the atom, but I agee that it's quite similar to the Cyclones. I can't remember if it can be programed with the Novvak profiler like the earlier cyclones or if it's like the cyclone 2 that can only be programed with pitwizzard since the pins on the ESC and cable are different. Here'e my Cyclone/Profiler thead, you may find it pretty cool
http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=23524 I'd like to own a pitwizzard just to mess around programming the C2, but I haven't found one yet in good working condition.
You'll want a novak power cap with either of those, I used p#5675 it's a 5600 uf cap. Both didn't quite run right without the cap.
Personally I like Super Rooster with reverse better, however much larger footprint and non-programable.

I have an Atom in a JRX2 'runner' that I occasionally take off the trophy shelf and abuse. I run it with a 2S 20C 5000mah lipo (using voltage alarm) and a pretty hot motor, and it barely gets warm. It's a great little ESC, I would highly recommend it.
I also have a cyclone, also a great ESC.

I would say you did alright!! The c2 if I remember correctly has a built in on/off button. I always liked that feature and wish it was on more esc'sLosiXXkid wrote:Just managed to find a NIB Cyclone C2 for $69.00 plus shipping (to the UK).....how did I do???LosiXXkid wrote:Thanks for the input.

If you have a millenium pro, that includes a pit wizard for the esc. Good Luck!

As it happens I just missed out on a Millennium Pro from eBay - it finished at just over £16.00 ($24.00) so was a little disappointedhudson hornet ! wrote:I would say you did alright!!
