My Tamiya 959 after many years :)

Post by tiger1 »

Porsche 959 is my all time favorite car (real or model), 4wd, 3 diff, suspension, fast, unique body style ahead of its time. Can't image it was created at a time when there was no good selection of tires really available for 200mph cars.

I got my Tamiya 959 from Jim (Chicago) :D back in 1997 in new built condition, did not really drive it but kept it on shelf. Anyway, figure out it was time to get a new TBG (or Kamtec? can't remember now) shell about >6 years ago.

Finally got time to rebuild and paint the car. As original stickers were hopelss hard to stick on on that curvy body (+ expensive) and always automatically come off after a period of time even in great storage condition (personal unpleasant experience). I decided to paint the shell in a way I like with less big size stickers/decals. I always love red and white anyway. Somehow, in my head, 959 always have to have some 'gold' color.

Here is my 2013 959 :)

Am I missing the pictures? I have a 959 in box, not new. It has been sitting for years.

Edit:Pics working now and I like how the paint turned out. The overall effect of what you where going for looks good.

Is that the Tamiya 959 58059?

For some reason the chassis looks sort of like it, but not quite like it.
I miss brushed motors in that hazy, everything seemed better when I was a kid, kind of way.

Now that is a nice 959... Love the paint scheme and wheels.. When you do a great job like you did, who cares about box art.. What wheels are those?? Been thinking about getting a 959 but can't seem to find one in good enough condition or good enough price.. Well done..

Those wheels are CNC alloy wheels, sort of one off production. I got it from a Hong Kong chap almost 8 years ago.

Very cool. I see Marlboro decals on eBay from time to time. That would allow you to finish off you inspiration. You're chassis looks very interesting. You'll have to post some topless shots so we can all get a look.

I love that 934 in Marlboro livery, gives me an idea for a tamtech tamiya 934.
