Jrx-Pro, does anyone still RACE one?

Post by perry »

I saw Jaro's thread he started on his, and it made me think about mine. How many are still taking their old Jrx-anything to the track anymore? I've been thinking about taking mine back down and racing it, but honestly, I just don't know if it would compete with the new stuff.

So, who's still racing their Losi? or are most of us just tinkering and cruising them around easy nowadays?

i race my 5link any time i can, our local track has added a vintage buggy class to every trophy race. so if there's enough (and there usually is) we run'em.
i'ved also raced it at the last 4 vintage off road nationals.
an other local track has added a class as well.

the only exception is the last trophy race i ran a rc10ce based racer.

I had taken my pro to the track a couple of times but never raced it. I found it more forgiving than driving an RC10. I've rebuilt it into several iterations and now it's basically a Pro SE. However, I've recently been driving a 5 link, short chassis JRX2. Basically my first JRX from 1988. I'm finding this particular car to be very fun to drive. It soaks up bumps differently. I've thought about taking it to a race for the fun of it sometime. If I do it'll be on a dirt track. It would get killed at our clay track. My DEX210 will kill my JRX's on clay.

same here, but on our big outdoor track my 17.5 powered jrx2 keeps up with and can win against the mod buggies up here.
it's fun indoors too, but the track has to be a tight one otherwise it gets killed.

I haven't run a Pro lately, but this summer for parts testing I ran an LXT with XX transmission at our local races. At first I only did ok, then I realized my servo settings had been still set for dirt oval, which means turning right is limited. After getting that reset I was doing great. I was leading or near the front often until I would make a stupid mistake like clipping a pipe. ( i am a not a great driver)

I was running an older Novak Ballistic GTB brushless setup. I am still using an even older synthesized JR radio in fact.

I find it is more the driver than the car at my local racing level. They had more speed on me in the straights because of my motor and gearing, but I was out turning them in the corners often. I used a front setup borrowed from some old NXT GTX setups. Didn't use the rear setups since that is going to be really different compared to an LXT.

Been racing my JRX2 all last year... despite there being a few of us local drivers being into the old stuff - it never seems to work out that we are ready at the same time to get together to race in our own heat.. which has left me running in with the normal Mod 2wd class.

My JRX2 is powered with an 8.5 BL & has been running great even up against the modern cars... my main handicap is the fact that the car is rear motored, on our super high grip astro tracks, a mid motor layout really provides a genuine & distinct advantage.
