Cover "girl"Jrx2

Post by Jirka »

Managed to purchase an quite early production Jrx2 earlier this week from the local market :o . Included in the transaction was the Ko Propo FX2 stick transmitter and all the electronics that can be seen on the photos. This car seems to be nice condition.

Jrx2 3 Without body.jpg
Jrx2 3 Chassis Bottom.jpg
There are 5 drilled holes in chassis  but I have one mint Jrx2 chassis 8)
Jrx2 4 Motor plate.jpg
Motor plate is without stamps :) and also without any scratch :D .
Jrx2 5 5-link 1.jpg
Jrx2 5 5-link 2.jpg
5-link parts are old ones too: Real links do not have 4 holes in them and side links 2nd gen, with two holes for shock bottom mount and vertical reinforcement ribs. Rear hubs have two reinforcement ribs.
Jrx2 6 Alu collars.jpg
LRM have aluminum collars.
Jrx2 7 Front shock tower.jpg
Jrx2 7 Rear shock tower.jpg
From shock towers surface texture can be seen and rear shock tower is "heavy duty" version.
Jrx2 8 Front A-arms.jpg
Front A-arms are chunky ones to my memory.

Then something interesting: This Jrx2 was The test car in local hobby magazine with 6-page article.
Jrx2 2 article 1.jpg
Jrx2 2 article 2.jpg
Jrx2 2 article 3.jpg
And a few issues later this same Jrx2 was in cover of same magazine advertizing local model and hobby exhibition.
Jrx2 2 article 0.jpg
Future plans that I have to this car might be to:
- Keep the rear tires as is. Rear wheels needs to be changed to orange ones, current ones are red.
- Change front tires to Schumacher minispike or some other very similar looking tires to front
- Order new body and wing
- Purchase AE RC10 shocks
- Make new shock towers and additional front post from fiberglass
- Add A LOT OF Team Losi Performance, Revolution etc. stickers to body
Hopefully some member here can help me with rescanning the needed picture with bigger resolution so that all hand written text can also be seen (and copied to new shell).

No they are Kyosho golds as the fronts are Kyosho's some cheap plastic ones, maybe from Optima Mid Custom.

that's pretty cool. 8)

it's hard for me to see the pics in the magazine, but how close is the car now to how it was in the magazine? doesn't look too far off.

The first owner of this car was the chief editor of that magazine. He probably just got the car as a test device from local Team Losi importer. The 6-page article of Jrx2 was quite good and he liked the car. He started the article from writing something about Team Losi background. Since the chief editor was also top level racer locally and he used and really liked A&L trailing arm cars (He raced with Kyosho Ultimas and MIDs with maybe all A&L parts available late 80's) 5-link rear end was something really awesome to him.

The second owner bought this car and "raced" with it against his friends Nikkos. He just said that this Losi was much faster and handled better than those Nikko-cars, well that is not probably a surprise. During this time, he broke micro-size steering servo and replaced it with bigger one. Because of this there are totally 3 holes in chassis for steering servo. He also used stick pack type batteries and modified the battery mounting part to accept his longer batteries. He also removed this self made saddle pack battery holder from the car. He did however saved it and I got it with the car. Other differences are front shock bodies that are now plastic Kyosho ones instead of Option House gold ones. The chief editor didn't like the leaking but otherwise very good Losi shocks and replaced shocks during test period. The rear wing was lost during years. Some stickers are also lost from the body: drivers name, his racing team name and name of the magazine sponser sticker.

Super cool! - Loving the heritage of this car & the fact that you were able to obtain the inside information from the previous owner... in some ways its a shame to restore cars like this, I quite like the 'patina' & alterations that an old buggy like this collects during its racing days :)

I agree with Dan. Cars like this have a certain 'character' about them and the extra holes in the chassis, for example, are all part of that character. If it were me, I'd just replace any broken or incorrect parts that need replacing and leave the rest as is....but that's just me!

Yup definitely only change the minimum required and leave it as is as much as you can. A good cleaning should do and then try sourcing what you're missing to make it look like in the old mag. Nice find!

I installed it to the car yesterday:
IMG_5043-F800x600.jpg
= Two RC12L? rear body posts and a self made graphite plate with some rubber foam in bottom so that batteries do not short circuit them self so easily.

Thank You all for the giving feedback :)
