Cerakoted chassis - anybody done this?

Post by Jim85IROC »

I have a black anodized B stamp chassis that I'm considering cerakoting. Cerakote has a reputation for being very durable, and also very thin, so it seems like it would cause less problems in the countersink areas, as well as to be more resistant to the typical scratches and scrapes that a tub can get on a basher. It seems like it would be a great choice for an RC10/10T chassis. Has anybody done a chassis with this stuff?

Sort of. Cerakote is a brand of coating that was originally developed for headers, but eventually wound up being most popular on firearms. Generally this stuff goes on thin enough not to mess up the action on firearms, and is strong enough to hold up on bolt carriers and other high wear components, plus it's self-lubricating. The major advantage from my perspective is that it cures at low temps (250 degrees) as opposed to most ceramic products that need 600-700 degrees, so I can do this right in my oven like I do with powder coating.

Cerakote is something I've been interested in too but not something I'm set up to try.

Another member has done a 10T chassis with it though: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=25414
